Charger, you're right. I like it. Very well, too. Friday and Saturday were break in days at the ranges, shoot, clean, and cool. You know. Anyway, that was a long process with 100 FLC (Full Length Condum) match loads left over from high power. Yesterday afternoon started to search for a real boolit load. I have a few things I need to do though to the rifle. First, although I really like the synthetic stock it came rapped in, the finish is doing a number on my check - VERY rough. Either smoothing in that one spot or a nice stock sleeve - haven't decided yet. Also, the 6-pound trigger has GOT to go. Found several good instruction sheets on adjustment, and will do that today. Lastly, got to get with Felix to try out the target dot scope he has. Left hand solid mount has not come in yet so I have a Tasco 3-9 on it with Weaver mounts and rings for the time being. Very cludgey. If I cannot come up with the LH Leupold mount, I will go to Conetrol two piece (which I might do anyway). Yesterday was VERY windy. I shot several 10-round groups at 200 that were all sub 3-inch. I KNOW this will drastically improve with trigger adjustment and a better sighting system. Was it worth it? Yea. And like someone said, "A year from now, you won't even notice the price." btw, that aluminium bedding block molded into the stock is a thing of beauty! sundog

Sundog..I am glad you are pleased. My best condom groups came from Federal Match ammo, but I did not try and find a good FLGC load and went to cast after a little break in. Cast will beat Federal Match all hollow. I adjust the factory trigger to 2.5 lbs and it works fine. I mounted a 70s vintage AO 12X Redfield on mine. I used a Ferrell base and I really like it. This base is solid steel and works both right and left handed. The base accepts any Weaver type rings and I use Leupold. I like the Ferrell base because it offers a number of choices where to place the rings. The Ferrell base is not too costly, but his rings are high dollar items. Keep me post on how the rifle works out. Mine is a keeper!

Sundog, anytime you are ready, I'm ready. The riva' is going nowhere as far as I can tell. Remember, the target scope, actually a Hunter's Class scope, is only 6X. Won't be enough to read mirage (slow wind), but plenty good enough for most things. ... felix

Well, Felix, that's just fine. I've always been a bit partial to fixed power scopes. The one on my 7 mag (going over 30 years old now) is a 4X Wide angle Weaver. Speaking of mirage, I did have some Saturday, along with all that wind, that was plainy visible thru the crappy Tasco optics on 9X. I can't hammer Tasco too bad though as I've seen a few of the better ones what were okay, but they are NOT Leupold for sure. Just got back from lunch and scored 2 full buckets of wheel weights. Now have an established 'in' also. Bought the lad a nice lunch and a case of beer, and everybody is happy! sundog

Sundog, might as well throw the score into the pot with the rest. When do you want to fire up and continue the job on-hand? The tire shop consortium down here got wind we might be firing up again soon, and said they would contribute some raw WW to the tune of a ton or so. All they want is a supply of 44's lubed and ready to fire, but we might have to con them into taking a bunch of soup cans too because that would be much easier to give them a "year's" supply. When you come down this time though, no need to pick them up just yet. However, bring your 308W dies down, just in case your neck is too small for 311 boolits in once-fired Federal fat neck cases I have here for your new gun. These cases would be great to neck turn to fit in case you want to shoot fat boolits. ... felix

Had a little bit of quiet time yesterday, so I ran some 3-round groups of 308-165-SIL with different powders at 50 yards keeping velocity (pressure) up just to see what would happen. IMR3031 was the clear winner in this unscientific test - will test some more. Also tried some 30-180-SP (yet again) and I'm still not impressed with them. I did adjust the trigger, it's WELL improved from when it came out of the box! sundog
