This section has slowed down to a crawl. Thought I might stir the pot. Been awhile since this has came up. What do you use as an ingot mold. Saw some old muffin tins at a garage sale.

I just use an old stainless steel bowl and put 4 dipper spoons full from my smelting pot and end up with 4 lb ingots. The stack nicely into old nailboxes under the bench. It may go against all the percieved wisdom concerning bare hand - molten alloy - water but I just put the four dipers of melt into the bowl and hold the bottom of the bowl into a bucket of water for a few seconds and there is solidification suficient to toss the ingot out and set it back for a refill.

I have a factory Lyman ignot mold and a cast iron "cornbread" cooker that I use as an ignot mold.

Also I have a mold designed to make lead weights for SCUBA diving, as I used to do that as well.

I use ingot molds from rcbs and lyman mostly.
I do have one I made from angle iron I really like it holds about 1-3/4 lbs of ww alloy and slides into any pot I have easily.
the triangles really stack up nicely too.

I have the standard 1 lb. moulds from Lyman, RCBS, and SAECO, as well as 3# ingots in a nine-count "block" (two sets). I also have a mould for pouring the original 22# linotype ingots that came with the deal when a buddy and I bought out a print shop a few years back.

In short, I think I have all the ingot moulds I need.

I use the Lee ingot mould mainly, but I also have a cornbread mould too just don't seem to use it any more.

The coolest one I read about was one made from some angle iron so the ingots come out triangular. The person had made it the 7 1/2" in length so that the ingots would fit crosswise in a 20mm ammo can. So you'd put the first row down facing up, then the next row facing down so they nest. The ingots are short enough you can lift them with a finger. I suspect once you got a couple rows laid down the can isn't going to move anywhere, but it would be a nice and convenient way of storing lead and keeping it clean.

I use the mini muffin pans. The smaller ingots allow me to add a smaller ingot as the pot level drops and the recovery time is faster. Even purchased new they are pretty cheap. Get one of the nonstick ones...the ingots drop right out.

You fellows may laugh at this but this is what I use for an ingot mold. I use an old vertical piston lawn mower engine. I remove the head and I run the piston down to the bottom of the stroke, pour my alloy, and turn the flywheel to bring my round ingot up and pick it over with a heavy leather glove or pair of Channel Locks. My engine give s me about a little over two pound ingot and they fit nice in my melting pot or furnace.

The cast iron cornbread molds are just great. We held our Ranger Reunion last June in Branson, MO; and the local country store had them for $8 apiece. You can stick five or six at a time in the Lyman or RCBS 20lb pots.

My WAAGE 80-pounder holds about fifty of them at a time.

I can easily adjust the size of my ingot with my engine method by rotating the piston to the size I want.

hmmmmm...

I just don't have a well enough calibrated eyeball to do that.

My lovely wife bought me the 80lb WAAGE Pot for my B-day last fall. Life is good.

Rich I have marks on the flywheel to set the piston depth where I want it. I used the depth gauge on my calipers to set it. The half way mark gives me one pound ingots. By the way it's an old Clinton engine, remember those?

ah, our old friend smokinj chimes in.

I was worried we might have also lost you here, since you were banned from the cast bullet forum for boorish behavior.

There is a rumor floating around that you tried to rejoin under a different alias and some routing trickery.

Yeah just like it's hard to tell if Bill Williams is Onceabull, Idabull, or Natedontgo and by the way he got banned from Accurate. Ditto Scott Wheeler who uses swheeler and I forgot the name he used to sneak in the second time. So what's your point? Like I said I it wasn't me they banned and I haven't even been posting much here as you notice.

Idaho Sharpshooter--Wouldnt calling it the Cast Bullet Forum be a misspell?

Wouldn't is spelled with the apostrophe between the "n" and "t". It is a contraction, and such is proper grammar.

Using the term "Cast Bullet Forum" is simply the generic catchall phrase. The same usage is in the initials ATV, for All Terrain Vehicles or NRA for the National Rifle Assn.

Are you banned there too...?

No I'm not banned there. You are wrong--it is a misspell as the proper title is Cast Boolits. They misspelled it, but that is how they spelled it. Thanks for the lesson on contractions sure didn't know that.

I could post both links if you are challenging my "knowledge" Rich

The one when you bought the item and the one when the seller asked you to step up and pay.

He said you had but one excuse.....sorry for your bad health

You should probably just let this one go.
