Aha! Somebody has posted the top secret "get your pictures to stick trick".

Now let's see if it works with Ofoto pictures. If so, you should get a bolt pic starting here: -
and the text here should flow right below the picture because it stayed where it was put (for once).

Let's give her a whirl.

Ed, what in the world are you doing up at this unGodly hour of 4:00 AM?

Me, I'm trying (again) to learn how to post pictures. -

Can you believe I actually got it to work a couple of times?? (for a few minutes, anyway)

Actually, I am trying out another host to see if it works any better. This is the picture I am trying to post

http://www.pbase.com/image/20959507

and it works, by itself. I can't seem to get the hand coded trick to work though, nor will the little instant UBB Code Image button - do much for me.

OK copy the url by right clicking on the picture and going to properties where you get to pick between image and link addresses (different looking stuff entirely).

-

and now some text to prove it doesn't squiggle to the bottom on me.

Thank you kindly, MSSMAGNUM, you get the Helen Keller award for successfully training the deaf & DUMB to post pictures (with triple Neanderthal Clusters no less).

Now you done made all of us "dangerous".

.......Not being a computer guru I don't know what's going on when some seem to be doing it right, and yet no picture. Maybe the hosting site has an issue? Guessing here.

I have pictures at Fototime in various albums or files. Fototime provides several options when you click on a particular photo. One is "Create Link". When making a post I go to Fototime, create and capture the link. Operating just like a 'cut and paste' routine.

Then back here I click on 'Image' and a mini box opens with a line for the address or link. I do the paste routine into that line. Then click the OK tab on the box. The box closes and the address is displayed in the body of the post.

You can see if you were successful by clicking the "Preview Post" button under this window. If yes, you'll see the image. If no, you'll see the address code only.

Nope, I was posting the "hyper-link" information by accident, not the URL picture location information. The trick about right clicking the picture then hitting properties was the key, then you can see the two types of links just sitting there looking at you. They are completely different once you can see them at the same time side by side. One says "link" the other says "url".

These are the same old stubborn Ofoto images that nobody could get to work (and I went back and fixed my low forged bolt handle pics to get enough practice so I would remember it).

And they stuck around all day long, so Ofoto.com is actually a good place for hassle-free (absolutely free) picture posting, just remember to right click the picture and choose properties once you have bored down to the photo and size you wish to see it at on the list.

I am just plain tickled about it, a sorry old dog has done learned him a new trick.

Oldfeller,
That is a handsome rifle,,,,but the size of that pic is way to much. a good rule of thumb is pics should be 1200x800 pixels. That leaves room for text and doesn't make the rest of us run for another thread.....an example you say? Sure,be happy to....

I've got a picture (bit map, I believe) that I took with a scanner. I laid the bullet on the scanner then messed with the settings till I got the best image.
Now I have a graphic file. How do I post this without having a site or address or whatever to reference to?

You need to have the picture hosted by a server (there are numerous FREE ones). You upload to them, they serve the image to everyone that opens where it's posted. Limitations of course on the free ones - # of pics, # of megs per day, etc.

Look at the URL's of the pictures posted and follow them back to the host.

Mine is villagephotos.com .

You don't. The picture has to be uploaded to a web server first. There are lots of free picture hosting sites out there. I don't use one, so I'll let those who do make a recommendation. Also, you'll want to convert it to jpeg format before uploading it.

Glad i could help!!

Another good rule of thumb for pics on the web, resize the pic until you reach between 60-100kb and they will fit jsut fine. [Wink]

Hey Tim,

I like that VillagePhoto.com place, they really go out of their way to make it easy to get that URL on that free picture.

Thanks for the good tip,

Another good place for pics is hunt101.com. They have the url for the pic right with it when you view it full size.

I think I mis-typed the name. (left off the 's')

see http://www.villagephotos.com/ for photo hosting, not www.villagephoto.com .

Thanks,
