Just want to know if this would be a good long-term load, that it wouldn't have long-term adverse side effects. Master cast bullet shooters' opinions sought. What to watch for, etc. etc. I loaded some Beartooth 335LFN-GC/.418 behind 53gr. of SR4759 (my very first cast bullet loads for the .416). Bullet was lightly crimped behind the first lube band (the first lube groove exposed outside of case). Shot them at 100 yard target and best group I got was one ragged hole of a 3-shot group. I'm pleasantly surprised. Other groups were half-inch apart. Leading seems minimum on initial visual inspection (haven't scrubbed barrel yet, just oiled it after shooting). It prints about 3 inches lower than my 340gr Woodleigh load. The 53gr SR4759 cast loads feel a little hot (although not as hot as my jacketed loads), but no pressure signs. The 47gr/50gr. loads felt milder but didn't group as well. I also tried 55gr of AA5744 and it shot like the milder loads. | ||
