First off, I would see what the longest OAL is, that will fit into the chamber. Load to this length. Ignore the crimp groove. Most cast bullets will shoot much better with no crimp. Just seat them to the length that fits the firearm best. This will most likely move the bullet out far enough to eliminate the check and groove being in the case. When you have one loaded this way, they will shoot ok, but I always use a filler of some kind if I need to seat them deep. When I say shoot ok, I mean they won't damage the rifle. But you very likely will not have as good as accuracy, as when they are set out properly. It sounds like you are setting them out pretty close to optimum. Trying moving them in and out, to the extreme they may cause the bullet to pull from the case when you try to eject a loaded cartridge. I generally end up with them just a smidge under this point, and get very good accuracy. Depending on your velocity, and number of lube grooves, you may be able to load without the front lube groove filled. | ||
