With all the turmoil of the last few months, the special order molds promoted by xp100r (Wally B.) have lost a lot of impetus.

I was really hoping to be able to get a 6-hole mold of this design through Midsouth, but in talking to them yesterday, it seems that the orders have stalled out at 16, and Chris of Midsouth said that they want at least 22-23 orders before they place the order with Lee Precision. For some reason, they don't want to get stuck with 8 or 10 molds in their inventory. Imagine that. <GGG>

Let me make a quick pitch. With the caviat that I've never used the boolit, those who have say that it is the most accurate cast design they've used in their .45 Autos. There is a lot of testimony from folks who use Lee custom molds that they are a cut above the regular production molds, and most seem to be satisfied with the custom cuts. In addition, the Lee 6-holers are good quality, custom or production, so these BD45 molds should be worth having. A six-banger really pumps out the boolits in a casting session, a real advantage for high volume shooters like the 45s.

I'd encourage anyone who shoots 45s to at least take a look at Midsouth, http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/so_mould.asp

Here's what the boolit looks like:

Well, I don't own a pistol right now, (I've learned that I must use a rifle to hit anything!)so I won't be buying this particular mold...

However, I did get one of the 6 cavity Bator .358 260gr Lee molds. The workmanship is really first rate! Bullets fall out when I give them a stern look! [Smile] No tapping or shaking!

The lever design to cut the sprues is very clever, and works great.

If you are sitting on the fence on this order, I can at least say that you can expect good workmanship on these Lee 6 cavity molds. Go ahead and order... you'll be glad you did I'll bet.

Fellers, we got some scratch in the castpics kitty what could cover the additional moulds to get this project off high center. Anyone who wants one later can just ante up to castpics, and in time we'll recover the money. Whaddy'all think? I'll even order an additional one for myself, and castpics would then only have to buy six. Now, for doing this, it should cost anyone an additional buck or two (donation) to castpics for the service. Of course, buyer pays the freight. I could have this done with a phone call.... sundog

sundog, as soon as people start talking about how much they like the BD45, lots of folks will decide they want one, only to find they won't be available. I think Midsouth may be a bit disappointed in how these special orders have gone, given the effort it took them to set up the system. So, subsequent orders for the molds may not be easy to do.

Your idea of "warehousing" a few molds at castpics HQ is a great one!

There will be some cash left over from the lube operation, and that will go to the kitty as well. It's up to all the lube folks to say if this particular cash should go towards molds, as well as to our "mainframe" computer rent. Sundog has to make sure all computer costs are OK first. ... felix

Sundog, I have ordered two already and would love to know there are more at castpics should I damage one. Sounds like a great idea to me! Tony

I appreciate the support guys, and of course I'm in favor of the molds being produced. I've ordered two and pushed them on the net as much as I have time to.
There are a lot of forums out there I just haven't had the time to address. Also, showing up somewhere out of the blue just to push something in your first post is probably not the most effective way to gain support, (even though I have no financial interest in it).
I'd ante up for another mold but I'm being a bit conservative fiscally right now as I wait to see what the Ins Co. is going to do about my wifes car getting creamed by a wide load this week. I'm home this afternoon to deal with that, which sure isn't making me any $$. BD

Okay, fellers, I just ordered 7 more moulds. They will call me back if there is a problem getting the order to Lee, and if I have to, I will order one or two more. I'm like you guys, when the word is out, others will be lining up! The castpics kitty is just settin' gathering dust for the time being, so it should at least do a little bit of work for us, eh? sundog

sundog, compadre, OUTSTANDING!!

Many thanks for the help in not letting this source of custom molds go away because of apathy!

I speak for many when I say, thanks for your efforts on behalf of this group of miscreants <G> in all the things you've done for us.

Bless yer fuzzy little head, Sundog. Excellent idea, that's better than money in the bank. I had been wondering about this project the past few days. I'll try to get some locals interested here in a purchase again, or should they just be rat holed for the brethern?

Sundog and Grumble-Thanks, also have two of these on order, in anticiptation of eventually casting my own.

Plus they're sure to be family heirlooms. There better be BD 45 acp on the box somewhere!

Ron, you may want to modify your order. They don't ship partial orders. When I ordered one of everything, I emailed back the next day and asked them to split it into sperate orders on everything so I would get them as they came in instead of waiting until it ALL was availible.

Kenjuudo - Easier said than done. Aside from the prototype mold, I believe they are non-existant at the time. I, along with a few others, tested these bullets last winter, and I personally had excellent results. They shot better than any other design I have shot from my pistols. The only issue I had with the design, was sometimes the profile would kick the slide catch into lock position. This was fixed with a mild stoning of the hand, then everthing was hunky dory.

Lar, I talked to Chris at Midsouth on Friday. He told me the order had gone to Lee, and will go into production on Lee's schedule, whatever that might be. I'd guess six weeks to two months for them to get from Lee to Midsouth, and another week for them to get to each of us.

Somebody posted earlier that if you have several items on order with Midsouth, all items may be on hold until the order is complete. If you have a couple of these custom molds on order, nothing will ship until all molds are received, and that might be quite a while. The solution is to call them and make sure the backordered stuff is a separate order, that is, not combined with anything else.

Oops, it was YOU who gave the advice to separate backordered stuff from in-stock stuff. I guess good advice is like a joke -- you know it's good when one you tell gets told back to you. <G>

My head may be up and locked, but at least it keeps my ears warm.

I would like to buy one of the BD45 6 hole Lee molds if one is still available.
Since the order has gone in, how do I do it?
How much do I send to whom?

Lew, wait for the dust to settle. Sundog has supplied Castpics with the required number of molds to make bail, so there will at least be one there for you and anyone else. Needed 25 molds to make the order with Lee, and I think about 18 so far are already captured by others on the board without going through Castpics. ... felix
