Does anyone have any advice on using the "surplus" powder WC820(n) that can be found on the net?

I'm especially interested in using these for .45 ACP and/or a 12 gauge load.

Sixty bucks for eight pounds really has my attention, I can use it in my .44 and 7.62x25, but was hoping to be able to put it to other uses as well.

thank you,
Rich

I have NOT found a H110 surplus equivalent,
IMO-WC 820 is AA #9,I bought an 8 lb jug from Barlett.I use WC 820 in SW 500 loads and when I get my 475 Maximum will use it in it also.

There is a wealth of knowledge(lets hope), in the archives here about WC 820, and the variations that have been documented from powder lot to lot.

I'd take a CLOSE, CLOSE look at everything that is out there. The last of it I purchased IS practically interchangeable with H110 and W296, but I was VERY VERY careful in working up to that load based on the number of people who posted here, claiming it was AA#9.

Different lots have different burning rates. My batch of WC 820(n) is #47320 and it is AA 9 or too close to tell the difference. Enough knowlegeable posters have reported the H-110 speed so that I am sure it exists in some lots.

I don't know of a list of which is which, but if Fireball and 475 will post theirs we will have the start of one.

There's a list already started, I found it here awhile back....

I haven't tried any in 45 acp or 12 ga, but it does shoot great in my 454, 30-30, 30-06, 44mag, 45 colt, 357.

I'm thinking that WC820 will be abit too slow for the 45 acp.
A quickload guestimate shows that 13gns with a 230 will only give around 800fps at 12,200psi
Maybe if you got the fast lot it would be better for it?
