Can any one tell me of any one making moulds for heavy .44 cal bullets ?? I should say that i class "heavy" as over 300 gn

I know that Lee make a 310 gn mould but does anyone make a heavier ???

What about custom moulds ?? What sort of costs involved ?? And who ??

Thanks for any help .

I believe RCBS has a 300 gr swc gc, but I could be mistaken. I had one of the Lee molds when I had my 44, and it is an excellent bullet, also cast from wheelweights with gas check and lube came out 320 gr.

Ballisticast, Mountainmolds and LBT make 300+ gr molds. Price range is $60-100 depending on maker and what material the mold block is made from.

I used to have a Lee 240 gr SWC mold that I re-cut the nose on one of the cavities and it dropped a 330 gr bullet. I didn't see any signifigant velocity difference between an LBT 310 gr, the 320 gr Lee and the 330 gr I modified, all would do ~1200 fps from a 4 5/8" SBH over ~21-22 gr H-110 (been a few years since I've the gun)

Englander,
RCBS makes a 44-300 FNGC and Lyman made a 325 FNGC (429649). Both drop a little heavier out of WW with about 1/2-1% tin added. I shoot them out of a RBH, T/C, and Win 94 Lever. Orygun

I had a Lyman mould for years that cast wonderful slugs that had a weight(sized , lubed and with a GC) of 348gr. but I think it`s no longer available, it was supposed to cast (by its name/number) 325gr. slugs.
Last year I ordered a mould from Jim Allison in Australia , that casts 380gr. slugs with two crimping grooves , this thing is still in the case while it already engages the throat on my Ruger Super Redhawk revolver !Talk about a long bullet here ! I don`t have Jim`s adresse here at work , but his company is called "Cast bullet engineering" , he makes them out of brass and they truly are work of a talented craftsman !Price is excellent due to the low Aussie $ exchange rate , if you need further help on this contact me via e-mail , Jrgen [Big Grin]

Englander....Check with Ballisticast. They picked up the old H & G line. I have a #328 H & G that runs about 317 grains and is a true Keith design that I like. They still list it.

Also, NEI has some biggies and Dan at Mountain Moulds can probably whip out what you want also.

I'd try NEI first as I don't know what Moutain Moulds lead time is.

I'd anticipate paying $75-100 for a custom mould with a 6 week lead time./beagle

I have to agree with Beagle. I have three four cavity molds one for 45 acp, 220 gr., 45 Colt, 255 gr., 44, 230 gr that are just about perfect. I have a two cavity for a 300 gr. 375 and a 100 gr. for a 243.
All of these molds are top drawer.

I have both the 300 and the 340 ballistic cast lfns both are great bullets. Like allready said lyman and rcbs make 300 swc. Lee and lyman make round flats I have all these molds and the two ballistic cast designs have given me the most consistant accuracy especially the 300 it drives nails in all of the guns Ive shot it in.
