I just bought 500 Copper Plated 350 Gr. Bullets from Berry's Manufacturing. They say not to drive these bullets faster than 1,400 FPS. Most all the .500 S&W data I've come across in that bullet weight is way beyond that. Has anyone loaded this caliber with cast or plated bullets to lower velocities? I'm looking for a nice practice load around 1,000 to 1,100 FPS. billt

I've been shooting Berry's 350 gr .500 over 20 gr of Blue Dot. Great accuracy, "mild" to shoot, and still exhibits the appropriate amount of thunder and lighting.

A couple days ago I blew my 500 up using a light load. Some believe that a small load in a large case can detonate. Others think that that is impossible and the only way to get into trouble is to accidentally use a double charge. Whatever happened I thought that I had a light load in my 500 and I bulged the cylinder, cut my safety glasses in half and scared the cr@$ out of myself. I'd recommend not using light loads in these guns.
