While we're at it, what's the opinion of it's slightly shorter, slightly fatter big brother, the C452-300RF?

I've shot quite a few of these through a Redhawk and a DW 744 with good results. Mine drop at 315 grains and .432 in WW, (a bit out of round , but size to .431 just fine). Good bullet, been talked to death which is why you're not getting much response. I've used 18 grains of WC 820, (lot 47321), or 26 grains of lot 47269 WC680 seated long. Both work OK. IMHO this bullet wants to be running just at the speed of sound out of a revolver as it's gonna drop through the sound barrier under 100 yards. I've heard some reports of feeding difficulties in the .444 marlins, don't remember the results in .44 mag carbines. I think the biggest drawback is that it's heavier than it needs to be. I'm mostly shooting 260 grain WFNs now in the .44 mag and they'll completely penetrate just about anything I need them for. The 310 grainer has somewhat of a trajectory and recoil penalty while providing the same basic terminal results from a revolver. BD

BD I wish this was a bit lighter bullet somewhere in the 270 range and at the velocities I am expecting, not too sure the gas check is really a necesary item. I have tried the WC-680 in the funny coated bullet and it shoots essentially the same sight setting as the WC820 (my batch of WC 820 is H 110 speed). Guess I will get one and experiment, it just ain't that much money for a Lee.

I shoot this bullet in a Marlin .444 ss 22" 1:38 twist barrel they drop 318 grains with my current batch of wheel weights water quenched. They also drop 0.4315 and i run them though a lee 0.430 sizer die after hand dipping them in stick alox. i have no trouble cycling them though my marlin although they are set deepish. Accuracy at 100 yard with Ashley ghost ring is 5-shot of 2.5"-3" Ive pushed them to approx 1900 f.p.s with no leading,at 200 yards with scope accuracy is perfectly good enough for a heart shot on deer. I have tested this bullet shot into new print at 200 yards at two different velocites the results were remarkable ! 1600 f.p.s and 1850 f.p.s if i remember correctly..... I will post a photo later.......... Englander

BD, I have been working with a 44 NEF Handi rifle over the last year, took 4 deer with it this season, 2 with FLGC's and 2 with cast, a modified Lee 310 mold, I machined the GC shank off the mold blocks. I agree 100% with your assessment, in the 44 Mag case, once bullet weight exceeds about 270 grains, there is no longer sufficient case capacity to drive 300-325 grain bullets with enough velocity to be in anyway superior to the lighter bullet. I do however like shooting them at 900 fps from my Ruger Blackhawk. All the recoil goes into flipping the muzzle straight up with no noticable rearward recoil. It is to me as comfortable as shooting standard 45 Colts loads (250 grains @ 950 fps).

Quote: TCLouis, I'm looking for a batch of WC820 that is close to H110 in burn rate. Do you mind telling me where and when you got it? Maybe they have some more of that lot. Thanks!

I have three jusg of WC-820. I bought two jugs of WC-820, one from Jeff Bartlett and one from Hi-Tech. YES, THAT TOTALS to three, . . . Hi-Tech sent one jug of WC820 with an order instead of what I ordered, That made it a total of three. Yes, HiTech stood behind the correct action beyond all reasonable level of my expectation and I worked with them to make it fair for all. All of the batches were purchased some time ago and compare to H110 when loaded to reloading manual specs. Manual predicted 1500 fps in the 45-70 and my chrono data averaged 1567 for two different sessions. Shoots very accurately at that!
