NEI #226 412-300 round nose gas check. Comes out closer to 325 grains. This is the one I use. Comes out of the mold just over .413". I use it as is in the 405 and size down to .410 for the 40-90BN Sharps.

NEI #227 412-325 truncated flat point gas check. Comes out closer to 350 grains.

Lyman 412263 300 gr round nose, NOT gas checked. Comes out closer to 285 grains.

A lot of folks use the RCBS 416-350 GC. It will size down easily to .414 which is a good size for the new generation M95s which have a generous barrel size (mine is .4132").

Depends on what you are going to use it for. For plinking (up to ~1600fps) the Lyman would be good (and cheaper, gas checks are now expensive). If you want more velocity, you would be better with a gas check design. If you want to hunt with it, one of the flat points NEI 227 or RCBS with do better.

I use a custom mold from Mountain Molds that weighs in at 350 and a NEI 300 grainer. Both are gaschecked. I use Hornady/RCBS 416 gas checks, that have been annealed. The Lyman 40 cal. gas checks were awful, lots of defective checks.

A friend of mine has this mold and it casts at .410 out of wheel weights. With a gas check and lube it is about 320 grains. It is a wonderfully accurate bullet out of my 40-65. With the tang sight I can shoot near 1" groups
repeatedly.
The only issue is the gas check. As was said in the other post, the Lyman's just before they quit making them were awful. They had maybe a 4% defect rate. Notches and tears and uneven skirts. I was able to find a life time supply 2X over so I have that covered. Pretty strange having to worry about 41 gas checks.

go to www.castboolits.com and look at group buys. Marlin Pat is setting up to make tooling that will allow you to make your own gaschecks out of .010" soft copper 8x11" sheets which he has a source for. I am going to get them in 30, 375, 416, and 458.

As long as the normal gas checks are available I will buy them.
The .41 gas checks were discontinued by Lyman and I found a large supply. I hope I live to shoot them up.
