I got a new barrel in today for my Model 1899 TD rifle. When I bought it in .303 Savage I tried some Burtrum brass in .303 savage, some formed 30-30 cases and then settled on 220 Swift cases. With the peep sight and cast bullets I got her down to 3.5" at 100 yards off sand bags and about half that woth j-bullets. I lead lapped the bore and went to some oversized WW bullets and got it down to 2.5". I saw an ebay barrel in 30-30 for a td. Mine was made in 1921 and has the full square (whitworth type) threads. Well the barrel came in today and the bore is perfect the finish is 100%. The only things that are wrong is I'm going to have to take a light cut on the shoulder for a fine fit. Also it's missing the forend stud, small thing, I can buy on or make one with winter coming on. The barrel is also about 2" longer than my .303 barrel.
I will be posting about the progress on this.
I'm in the middle of the .45pp tests too so I have my plate full for a while.
