Hi all, Looking for a load for my 30-30 with 311440 if anyone knows of a good one. Got a bunch of brass to stuff. Any ideas? Got some 748, 4198, RX-7, 4895. Thought I put this post on here about a week ago but don't see it now that I'm back to check. Thanks in advance, Newtire

That is not a very popular 30-30 bullet. If it is similar to 311291 or 31141, then I am having luck with 31 or 32 gr of 748. I have increased accuracy with several cartridges I thought I knew when I tried W748. Same with W296

Interesting bullet with that big flat "point". It should make a fine hunting bullet with good shock power. I don't load that particular one but a couple other 150 grain .30-30 cast bullets. The powders you list look pretty good. 4198 gave excellent accuracy in my Contender barrels and Reloader 7 is a favorite in my Winchester 94 carbine. For those powders I've found a load of 22 grains in each as being accurate. My best load for 4895 was 28 grains. Although these load are relativly mild, I suggest you use all due caution as what works well in my guns may not it yours.

Thanks Courtney, That about confirms my findings with 150 grain bullets I have loaded too. I seem to hang there in that 22 grain range of the medium powders. Any more & the groups really start opening up. I got excellent accuracy with the 170 grain 311041 with Win 748 & then with H-335 with top loads only so was gonna try to play around with that stuff a bit. I might try some "near-the-top" loads with that next weekend when I get a chance to go to the range. Thanks again! Newtire

Hey bilmac, That's just exactly the load I got best shooting with in my 30-30. 31.5 gr. Win 748 & the 311041. That & the H-335 stuff, which I hear is kinda variable from lot-to-lot so I'm gonna be real careful about that. The 311440 is a 150 grainer. Come to think of it, maybe that charge will work for my "jinx" bullet 311291 which I know just has to shoot one of these days when I finally get it down! It's all fun anyway! Newtire

Hey newtire....Been off a few days. Wife's off and don't get on here to play much. I've been using this load in the 30/30 M94 and it will give me about 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with a scoped Legacy. 311440 156.5 grains WC820 16.0 grains 1737 FPS Pretty fair load for general use. You should be able to step it up some with 4198 or Reloader 7. The 311440's a strange duck. Mine has a nose that runs right at .300" which is fine for the 30/30. You have to be extremely careful in sizing or you'll bump the nose to the point it won't chamber. I do mine in a .310 nose first die and then come back and lube base first. Jumptrap has had this problem also with it. The 311440 is a good bullet. Gives maybe 1/2" more spread due to that big flat nose at 100 yards than does the 30-150-FN RCBS but for hunting and pests, the 440s a better bullet. Hope you get it tamed./beagle
