Does anyone have any experience using WC872 for cast bullets loads in the 416 Taylor? I've searched the archives and found lots of use of WC872 for cast bullet loads, but nothing for the 416 Taylor specifically. I've got some 385 gr bullets, and I'm thinking of trying them with a caseful of WC872. (Based on my experience using WC872 in a 7mm Rem Mag and 338 Win Mag, I don't think it's possible to get enough in the case to cause any pressure issues.) Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks, Washougal Chris

I shot 350 gr GC RCBS (370 gr. ww) in a 416 Rem Mag. Use Magnum Primers and crimp w/ LEE crimp with the surplus WC870. They were very effective to wow the campers at the July 4 campout. After dark it looked like a flame thrower. I filled the cases full, then seated the bullet to compress the powder. I forget the velocity, but there were no pressure signs. There was a lot of unburned powder left in the barrel. Don_G ...from Texas, by way of Mason, Ohio and Aurora, Colorado!

You are on the right track. It will be impossible to put an overload it, with with either WC 860, or WC872. They are mollassas slow. As was stated, stay with a magnum primer, and a heavy bullet. A strong crimp will help the burn charectoristics, and leave you with a cleaner bore. If you are an experienced reloader, you may benifit from duplex loading, using 4-6 gr. of a slightly faster powder in your compressed loads, for a cleaner bore.
