I use small weed trimmer line(.065)and double it and push through the bore. I then insert a patch--piece of cloth in the loop and drag it out. I can get a tighter fit through this way and there is no danger of harming the bore. For my small bore air rifles I use heavy(.135)line trimmer and push the patch through like when using a metal rod.
