well, i went to the family place where we hunt for the weekend. the first thing i noticed was that the pigs had been doing so much rootin around that it looked like the place had been bombed. i had 3, 5 gallon buckets of real ripe corn with me. i scattered 1 of them about noon the first day. that evening, surprisingly, i saw nothing. the next morning( put out another half of a bucket) was cold and misting rain so i had about had enough an hour after daylight. i still hadn't seen anything. walking back to the truck i saw a bunch of pigs about 75 yards in front of me. i had the wind, i was in the bushes and they were in an open field. after digging out my shirttail to dry off the scope lenses i shot the biggest one i could see. hogs went crazy, running everywhere. one group angled towards me and i managed to shoot the small brown one at maybe 25 yards. this shot made the two behind him turn directly towards me so i shot the third one no more than 10 or 12 yards directly in front of me. it was pretty exciting. i was also real pleased with the 6.5-06. i haven't used it in a few years. three quick shots and three dead pigs will inspire some quick confidence in your rifle. that evening, after scattering another half bucket of corn, nothing showed until the big sow, right at dark. she was the longest shot...a little over 100 yards. the next morning..scattered the last bucket and about an hour after daylight another herd showed up and i managed to shoot the little black fryer sized one. it was the best pig hunting weekend i've had in many years. i was real pleased with the rifle. i was shooting 140 grn remington bulk bullets at a little over 2800. the rifle is a rem 700BDL with a 24 inch pac-nor barrel.

these things are fun to shoot and i like having the chance to use my deer rifles all year long, but they really are getting to be a huge problem. there is no telling what damage they are doing to the quail and turkey population by raiding the nests for the eggs. we need to put a bounty on them.

it was pretty exciting

Sounds like it - Cool; but when it gets fast & furious you just gotta get with the Program! Looks like you did a right smart job of it, too.

Great story and great shooting. It looks as if there is quite a large exit on the black pig.
