In digging through some old files, I recently came across this photo from 2013. I don't recall the exact weight of the hog, but he certainly made my 7mm Bullberry Contender carbine look like a toy.

What is do recall is that the shot was in moonlight close to morning and how the Kahles 3.5-10x50 scope made it possible.

A few days ago, I discovered very large tracks and some impressive tusk marks left on a utility pole. Am hoping the bruiser shows up soon and can be taken out of circulation before fawns start hitting the ground in a few months. I'll post the photos of the tracks in just. bit.

This is what I noticed several days ago -- and well under 200 yards from the house:

A few of mine started off that big but have gotten smaller as the years went by. At the wife's place they have all but vanished! Glad you are still taking a few!

They've been scarce here for a good while now. I have taken three in the past week and another mid-January, but that's the most action I've seen out here in some time.

They do lots of damage, but I miss them when they are gone LOL...

Have been playing with this little gem I picked up from a guy from Poland. It's a Zeiss Classic 8x56 with #60 illuminated reticle, and it sits atop my 6.5 Bullberry.

It was used but offered at a great price, so I can overlook the slight ring marks since the glass is pristine.

I have its little brother -- the 7x50 version -- on a Contender in .223 and love it. That one has the illuminated #40 reticle and also comes from across the pond.

This is the 7x50:

No, but it definitely makes my top ten. Around here, truly wild hogs this size are a rarity. Of all the hogs I've taken over the years, I'd say no more than two percent break the 300-pound plateau.

I've heard lots of claims of 5-600 pound hogs, but good pictures and an accurate scale dispel those "stories" in a hurry.

To boot, it's not easy to estimate the weight of a hog. Heck, about 10 years ago I posted a photo of a hog I had shot, and before details could be posted, someone suggested it had to be at least 450 pounds. If memory serves, that one went something like 268. Yes, it was a brute, but it was not anywhere near 450 pounds.

Structurally, the one below was huge, but it didn't have great girth or length and did not break the 300 pound mark, either. Still, it was an impressive animal.
