That's one monster set of teeth, Larry! Both sides matching?

No. The opposite side is more normal.

Looks like the top tush is missing. No friction to wear the bottom one down. Knew some folks who would catch young boars and do a bit of dentistry before releasing them on their ranch to produce mega-tusks like that.

I have heard of that practice but do not know anyone who actually does that . I have seen a few like this over the years. My guess is that the tooth got broken naturally.

I've heard there's a lot of 'em broken off. Do you hog killers find that often? George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Well, sort of. In my experience, the cutters rarely get that long when one has a broken whetter. They usually break. I have hunted hogs a long time. Over 40 years. I have seen less than 10 that grew like this .

I'm no dentist but would imagine the absence of one tusk prevents the grinding effect between them that may be the reason that keeps them from overgrowing. It doesn't however seem to apply to Warthogs.

Larry: Did you look to see how far that had grown into his lip? Was the tip sharp pointed? Thanks, George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight
