Bev had to go in to work early yesterday morning. She left the house somewhere around 6 a.m., and a minute or 2 later, she called and told me where some hogs were. I was still in bed, so just threw on a pair of shorts and tennis shoes and stepped outside to take a look. Sure enough -- out in the wide open about 310 yards away were about a dozen or more hogs milling about. Got a solid rest with the 300 Savage and sent a 125 grain Accubond downrange. All the hogs went to the right except the one I shot at. She whirled left and then made a mad 20-yard dash into a small circle of brush that's probably only about 45 feet across, but it is really thick with vines and McCartney rose hedge. Anyway, I figured I'd drive right up to it and get the hog myself. It reminded me why you NEVER wear shorts in Texas ha ha. The calves are actually worse, but I can't bend that direction to take picture. As to the hog, the 125 grain Accubond performed superbly. It took the 120 pound sow squarely on the shoulder, nicked the top of the heart, wrecked a portion of the lungs and exited about 2 inches behind the opposite shoulder. No blood trail was needed, but if that had been the case, it would have been easy as the exit was gushing liberally. Anyway, I thought you guys could use a laugh...albeit at my expense. PS-Had someone on another board ask me if I got stung or was allergic to anything out there as the knee looks a little red in the picture. It's just RA and how my joints often look. I am very fortunate in that I have never gotten poison ivy, oak or sumac, despite living with it all around us. Bobby, glad you got that hog! You were probably leaving a blood trail too! Good thing you didn't run onto a rattle snapper! Z | |||
