Went to my lease Thursday in preparation for the bow season opener. Messed up a rotator cuff loading a four-wheeler the week before, so I didn't bow hunt for deer. I did sit out for hogs. Thursday eve I sat where the game cam caught a pix of the beast, but only small stuff showed up that eve. Flung a bullet after dark and heard a whop, but no mortal scream and no blood. Got out early and went to a spot I call the canopy Friday morning. Love the spot. Can see to the horizon for about 200 degrees of the compass. Its about a 175 yd. shot. Sunrise there is a bonus. About 7:15 AM the first hog shows up, and I nail him. he drops and paddles. Beautiful morning, been in the stand less than an hour. About 15 minutes later I'm glassing and see another hog poke his head out of the juniper. He's looking at his dead compatriot under the feeder. He comes in for just a second and then darts back into the cedar. He does this a couple times and I'm ready when he comes in and turns broadside. I fling a bullet at him. I hear the whop. When I regain my sight picture, he his nowhere to be seen. I figure, what the hey, two hogs in short order, maybe another will poke his head out. Sat there till nine and decided to go take a look. Its only about 175 yds. downhill, as the crow flies, but about 20 minutes and two miles to get there by 4-wheeler. Like I said, the red hog was DRT. I looked where I thought the POI was. Sure enough there was a spot of blood. As it was daylight with some effort I was able to follow the blood trail and track him the 150 or so yds. he managed to run before he expired. These two could have been litter-mates. Probably born within minutes of each other and died pretty much the same. Remington 700 KS, 300 H&H, 180 gr. TSX great eaters. Best, GWB

Just an observation, you carry your pistol on the South Paw strong side and shoot right handed rifles. What is your reason for this? Excellent shooting of some nice fat hogs!!

I'm guessing a "Cross draw" pistol setup but will let G Dub speak to that. Nice butter ball fat piggies!! Nice work and hope the shoulder does better for you.

I am right eye dominant and shoot a rifle right handed. I catch a ball, write, eat and shoot a pistol (most naturally) left handed. I carry a knife always. For the last 12 years or so I have carried a full auto Boker on my left side in a sheath. It is handy, and can be accessed one handed when in a "nine line bind". Consequently how I carry a pistol is usually dictated by the knife I carry. Texas is concealed carry in public and one can "open carry" on private land which I always do at my lease. My preferred method of carry for the last dozen years or so is my Boker on my left hip and my pistol in a belt slide carried cross draw. That way I can easily access eather with my left hand, no interference. Last weekend I was carrying a Menefee semi-skinner with a canted sheath. I want to carry the knife and draw it, blade down, hence I strapped it on the right side and the pistol on the left. Best, GWB

You're just too damn practical Thank you for the explanation and I REALLY like that Boker, we have a Boker kitchen set and I must say they are excellent cutlery.
