Yesterday, I was out at the deer lease setting up a blind. I was planning on sitting there after getting the blind set up. After much effort hampered by poor planning and equipment shortages, the blind was upright but not safe to sit in. Erecting the blind caused enough damage to two legs that sitting in it was a very bad idea. There’s a couple of t-posts “helping” each of these legs until I return with two new legs. But I wanted to sit there, and I needed a beer even more than I had planned on after the ordeal. So I put the chair from the blind on the ground and laid the blind ladder on its side in front of the chair. Nothing showed up for 2 hours, and then about 10 minutes after sunset a small group of pigs arrived and started eating the corn. A couple seemed to notice the blind that had not been there before, but after staring at it, each one returned to eating the corn. After some gyrations, I got the gun on the ladder without too much noise, got reasonably steady, and lined up on the pig I had the best shot on given the set up. One trigger pull and this little fellow was on the ground. The rest scattered with one heading kinda my way through some trees. I worked the bolt and got ready, but that one disappeared. I pulled the backstraps from him, and they look pretty tasty. The bullet seemed to have done a great amount of damage. The gun was a .243 with a 85 grain Sierra BTHP Gameking on a max charge of IMR3031. LWD

Interesting coloured pig. Any reason you don't take the back legs ? They look nice and meaty of that young one ?

Yes, the color is interesting. I didn't notice the color when I shot it. The sun was already down, and they were in some dark shadows. It was also surprisingly hairy. It was the hairiest young pig I've ever shot. The back hair on the shoulders and starting down the spine was 1" to 1 1/4" inch long. I really should have taken the hams too, but it was late and I didn't have a cooler. The cab of the truck was full of tools and the bed had a deer blind in it, so I hadn't brought one. I stopped in town and bought a little cheap styrofoam cooler and some ice for the backstraps. LWD
