The group from Nebraska that has been hunting with Robert for 4 or 5 years now were down this past weekend for their annual hog hunt. This year there were 10 guys that came down. For some reason or reasons they wanted these earlier dates than they normally hunt. Whether it was the full moon or the last weekend of deer season I am not sure, but none of them ever got a shot at a pig. Few even saw any pigs and the ones they did see were out of range. They even set up a couple of game cameras and what pictures they got were of hogs moving around between 1 AM and 3 AM. This was their first trip where no one killed a pig. The upside is that Robert was in touch with the guy that puts the hunt together and they are planning on coming back on Valentine's Day weekend 2015. I tend to feel it was a combination of the Full moon/hunter activity in the general area due to the end of deer season and possibly the wind that had the hogs moving the way they were. If nothing else, this simple shows that even though there is a problem with hogs in Texas, there are times when you can not find one no matter how hard you hunt. And that's why we call it hunting

Exactly, but Robert and I both like seeing our clients kill at least a few. As often as I hear it, I know that having a "Great Hunt" only flies so far if nobody is killing anything. Even the rocks don't last forever.

I understand. Occasionally I take folks out fishing and when we get skunked, there are times when it"a harder on me than my guests.

Hog hunting is just too iffy for me. I haven't seen a hog in the daylight since about 1970. Seems like it is always midnight to 4:00am. I never heard of hog hunting when growing up in New Mexico. First time I hunted deer in Texas I had hogs go right under my stand. I thought they were domestic hogs and let them walk. I found out later that day the rancher wanted all of them shot; no charge. Of course, I never saw another hog. I guess I'm too hung-up on the good old days when, if you hunted deer, any feral hogs, javelina, varmints, and in one case aoudad were free. I've been looking at a hog hunt for my brother and his son, and been amazed how booked-out some are. (A ten-man trek from Nebraska that comes-up empty would be tough to repeat. A lot of time and money down the tubes there.) I've never hunted hogs with dogs, maybe that is the answer to force some daylight action.

The pigs are hitting my place , large pigs and large groups between 2:30 and 3:30 in the AM... Way after my bedtime and way before I get up when I have to work all day,, They get smart with pressure and adapt to when there is less pressure on them, especially right now when there are still plenty of acorns and food in the woods for them. Encourage them [Nebraskans] to continue to come and hunt them. you can make more money, you can not make more time

This was a first for them, and for us, on the multi day hog hunts. The more I reflect on it, the more I believe it was a combination of the wind/the moon and the amou8nt of activity area wide with the last day of deer season. Normally these guys don't come down till mid Feb. early March, and I noticed a lot of folks in the area this weekend moving stuff off of their leases, but many folks had came out and were out in the pastures from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. I just hate seeing our hunters not get anything after all the effort they put forth. Even the rocks don't last forever.

I've hunted & killed hogs in 4 states : CA;FL;GA;OK...But I've been skunked on hogs in Texas 4 or 5 times - go figure! I'm not giving up on a Lone Star hog, though...maybe next time...?

Haven't you ever heard the true statement: "Kids and animals will make a fool and liar out of you everytime"? Looks like it happened again don't it? Better luck next time. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

I think stuff like this frustrates Robert and I more than it does our clients. I keep reminding him and myself that we are selling hunts, not kills. After all the work involved of keeping feeders going/running game camera's to try and keep track of hog movement/going out and spending time in the blinds seeing what is or is not going on, then to have hunters come in and not get shot chance or even see anything, is really disheartening. What to me makes it even worse is seeing fresh rooting and digging every morning but nothing to shoot at. Even the rocks don't last forever.

We have tried that, but too many folks really are not used to that type of hunting. What we end up doing is pushing the hogs farther out of the area than is necessary. I have not hunted hogs everywhere, but from my experiences here, you go in after them and they may or will quit the area for several weeks. Add to that, I ain't real comfortable getting into a situation where folks I do not know are trying to wing shoot running pigs. Even the rocks don't last forever.
