Some feral hogs have moved into the woods behind the house. The neighbor came over and talked about them and mentioned that it would be good If they were removed before calfing time. It would probably help turkey nesting sucess also!

I just wandered over some of the woods and found where they had been. Sure can tell the difference between turkey scratching and hog rooting. Wish I had carried a camera with me, because someone said they didn't see how that would be possible.

Anyway I need an attractant to kinda draw them to a limited area. Right now my plan is a one gallon milk jugs filled with corn mash buried in the ground or hung low in a tree.
Seems like the thing to me, but please tell me what may be better or a better method.

Corn will work fine. Add a dash of vanilla essence as well. You can make a trap easy as well. Check out some Aussie pigging sites and you'll see some traps.

My special attractant:

Fill a five gallon bucket two thirds full of corn. Pour in enough Big Red soft drink to cover the corn. Add a packet of yeast (or a couple of cans of beer if you don't have yeast). Set in the hot sun for a few days.

When it is done, bury it in a hole about 12 inches deep. They will dig and dig to get it out. I have shot hogs at such a hole and they will run off for a few minutes and then return for more.

Bakes.

Sounds like something you'd eat at one of your BBQs.

We have taken a post hole digger and dug down about 2 feet deep. We then fill the hole with corn and scatter the rest of the corn on the ground. The hogs will come and dig for the corn. If you don't make it hard for them to get at the corn, they will eat it all the first time they find your bait pile.

In Australia, the carcuss's of animals are used alot as well. Donkeys/wallabys and even pigs will work.

Mix up a big packet of powdered Kool-Aid with water and yeast if you can't get Big Red for some reason. Let it sit in the sun in a 5 gallon bucket and rot for a while then bury it. They'll come runnin'.
