Hunting on my friend’s family ranch is free, I pay nada, zip, zero, no-ting, nuttin, nothing, for hunting on the land.
I do however, have to pay my way there and what I eat and drink maybe buy a couple bags of corn.

georgeldWhether this is more OT, or of no interest to anyone.
While I was in Germany, July 71-Jan 73. We spent four 'tours' at Grafenwier where many free range game and other wild animals were in profusion.
I ran a water station on a creek crossing next to a bridge on a fairly main roadway.
This amounted to a good sized diesel air compressor and four air powered water pumps that would stiffen up a 4" firehose quick enough to knock a man down if he wasn't paying attention.
There was a fleet of 8000 gallon water tankers that 'tried' to keep the dust down on the many miles of roads, some of the ranges for the big guns and as water supplies to the many forest fires around the post. With one pump & hose I could fill a tanker in 20 minutes, two could fill it in just less than ten. At times there could be three tankers backed in there filling at one time, access wasn't wide enough for all four so one usually had two hoses going to it. All four could back in and be gone refilled in less than half hour. This went on not less than 12 hrs every day. I really would have liked to get around to see the post better than I did.
Since I was stuck out there for long streches of time, day and night. I tried to keep a big cooler of chow and excess milk in paper cartons setting in the creek to keep it all cooled down.
Several times the hogs got to my supplies and made a major mess of things. Tracks changed every night. One of my buddies operated an open topped road grader and kept it there sometimes. One evening I was late meeting to pick him up. Quite a bunch of hogs, several good sized boars "treed" Jim on top the grader. They tried their best to climb up on the deck with him. He showed me blood on his boots from kicking some boars in the nose. Poor guy was plumb spooked when I got there.
Hell of the deal was, in all that time I never once saw a pig of any kind or size. What a shame where now we're seeing and discussing hogs from Europe. Wish I'd seen some so I'd know how those compared to what you fellows share pictures of.

I like to use Italian dressing with a little dry rub on the meat after the dressing. If the pigs in question are over say 125-150 lbs. I usually put the dressing on the night before, wrap it in saran wrap, tightly, then dry rub, a couple of hours before it goes on the grill or pit.
On the younger pigs, I just use a dry rub of which I mix two together, one with salt and the other, no salt.
Either way you need to be careful and not use a lot of salt as Pork will be more susceptible to spices over beef.
There is a starting point to go by, I always like to try different spices for a little different flavor. Just go have fun and enjoy the grilling and the rewards.

Typically, nothing. I have never really found the need.
Most the pigs I have taken, which have mostly been boars have weighed between 150-200 lbs.
I have probably taken 1/2 dozen from 200-270 lbs.
I have never seen any truth to the if a boar is over XXX it will be tough.
Now if you want to marinate because you like a particular flavor, that is a different story.
Here is a favorite of mine:
2 lbs wild boar chops or fillets
1/2 cup tequila
1/2 cup lime juice
Heaping 1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
Bottled hot sauce (Tabasco, etc.) to taste...I put in six good shakes
salt to taste maybe a 1/3 of a tsp
marinate for about 2-3 hours
Take meat out and thoroughly dry. Wet meat will not brown.
Grill or sear in an non stick pan.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I gave the meat to the local soup kitchen and just wanted a fun hunt during my 2 weeks of vacation between Afghanistan visits.

Nice people, good food, nice accomodations, good game and much desired and needed weekend away with good friends....a hunt...not really but I do eat the whole thing right up to the oink!

Doug PisanoLol! I'd love to be able to drive a couple hours and hunt feral hogs on public land. Hunted them allot in S.TX when I was after Nilgai.
These local hunts are on a 5k acre preserve that's about 2 hours from home. The photos are taken on the edge of one of many fields. It's typical VT terrain, rolling hills and steep ridges with open fields from an old, turn of the century homestead. It's a preserve, a weekend away and plenty of pork! Never said it was a real hunt nor is it too set up. Heck, I saw wayyy more hogs in TX than I ever did in VT. If I coulda shot them without the $200 fee per animal, I'da killed several a day!
Anyway, going back to VT end of Sept and S TX next year end of Oct. Wonder if my 41 mag will work?

Those "monsters" are preserve hogs and they are considerably north of $200! They were mostly shot at a preserve in VT. The hogs in TX were $200 and free range on a 70,000k acre ranch. I did see a few that looked to be greater than 200lbs and some at a distance that could have broken 300lbs. We were hunting Nilgai which are very spooky, so no hog shoot'n till a nilgai was on the ground!
Have noticed the words pricey, considering some of the Russian boar hunts, here or in Canada. But, have started to bid on European hunts at SCI dinners a couple of times till I saw the $4000 price on a pig. Sure there are some can be had cheaper, but like anywhere, you need to meet locals and make some friends/contacts, to get decent prices on things.

If you want to hunt hogs and you live in Maryland, you don't need to head all the way over to Texas. Just head south down I95. North Carolina is loaded with wild hogs.

I dont know the price for big monster in USA,
but in Russia or Belarus the giant wild boar hunt will be cost 3000 - 3500USD included hunting fee for 5 hunting days and trophy fee.
We have in our hunting area in Kyrgyzstan big boars too, but not so much as in Belarus.

It's Wild Hill Preserve in Fairlee VT. Been going for years and the price for the biggest trophy boars is $1,500. Am going back last weekend in Sept.
I would not travel all the way to VT from MD. I would go to NC or TN if I were closer. WHP is 140mi from home and have gotten to know the family quite well. I find it an enjoyable weekend. In TX there allot of hogs but the size can vary but the shoot'n and the price can't be beat ( I don't think!)
Also, I believe there are quite a few outfitters in FL who will offer much less expensive hog hunts.
I figure that by the time I drive or fly to somewhere for a weekend hunt and deal with all the hassle, I'll probably break even.

Guess I didn't read your first posts correctly.
I got it that you've shot these 500#.big boars for $200 per. Wondered about the extra's.
This time last yr I flew to JAX n met a guy from another board. We drove across to Cedar Key where his cousin is a fishing guide to do some close in gulf fishing three days. Hog outfit; put n take on 43acres cost: $125+ $1lb over 100. Shot from a stand in the woods over feeders. Much like a farmyard butchering operation if not for being outside running loose. I shot a 145 and thought it was ok, but, wanted another bigger one. So we set for hours til one I was satisfied with stood there staring at me about 40 feet til I finally could locate his eye's in the 6x glass n popped him in the head, same as the first one. This was a 200# even. sure can't call that a hunt.
Still, they look good on the wall and fulfilled my goal of killing a wild hog.
Even those these were trapped elsewhere and kicked out in his yard sized pen.

WHP has been around since the 60's and has free rangung, self reproducing fallow, elk and red deer and bison. They are all over the place. I know he brings in the boars but releases them before the season though I "suspect" the big trophy boars are "monitored". Basic hunt for a 150-200lb boar is $750 and includes 7 meals, 3 nights lodging and guides who will gut the animal.
Just a guys weekend away without a lot of hassle...nothing more.
