1, We did not have a camera and 2, it was too damn cold to be posiong hunters and pigs.

My neice and her husband, both retired military moved to Olney about 3 years ago and slowly he has become a hunting buddy of sorts.

Recently he told me that one of his service buddies was coming down for a visit and if we might be able to take him out and get him a shot at a pig.

Well he made it in to town and my nephew called me and we got together for introductions.

I was needing to haul water to the buffalo we have penned up so I told them they could go with me and bring their guns.

The water hauling turned into a water haul because the place I went to get the water from was froze up.

So I decided instead of taking them back to my nephews house and calling it a day, we had a couple hours of daylight left so we ewould just take a tour around the area.

We ended up down at the place that usually has the most hog movement but did not see anything.

The route I took brought us up by where Lora and I live and instead of staying on the highway I turned and headed down the dirt that goes west about a half mile or so south of our house.

I went this way mainly just to kill time and on a possible hunch that a sounder of about 10, 40 to 80 pound pigs that I had drove up on one morning a couple of days earlier on the dirt road that runs north and south on the west side of the place Lora and I live on.

Right after we turned the corner and headed north, I could see the few head of cows that neighbor has on that field but I also sawc some smaller critters scattered out there.

It just happens that a hundred yards or so north of where we turned to go north there are some oil storage tanks off to the west side of the road, so I eased up behind them.

There is a pipe fence around the place where the tanks are setting. I told the nephew and his buddy to ease out and move around the tanks and see if the guy could get a shot from the fence as the pipes would provide a great rest.

The shot was going to be about 150-160 yards. I could not see the shooter from where I was setting in the pick up, but could see the pigs.

At the first shot I saw one pig drop and the pigs hopped around for a second then there was a second shot and another pig went down and the pigs still were not really aware of what was going on.

Between the wind being out of the north and the pick up being hid by the tanks and the shooter standing at the fence in front of the tanks, the pigs were running in circles.

The guys came and got in the pick up and I could see the second pig was getting up and then falling back down but wasn't going anywhere.

We pulled out from behind the tanks and started toward thev gate and then the rest of the pigs began figuring out the game.

There were still pigs coming out of the field with in 30 yards or so of us when we reached the gate.

My nephew and his buddy went out into the field to get the pigs and luckily he had paid attention to the fact that the one was not dead yet.

The one my nephew drug out weighed about 60 or so and the other went 80 + or -, but when the shooter got up within about 5 feet or so of it, it jumped up and hopped at him.

He stepped back a foot or two and shot it in the head. So it turned out to be a damn Good New Year for a couple of disabled vets that served together and are great friends.

I feel really blessed that God allowed me to share that with them.

Sometimes things work out! Too bad no pictures. Just being out in the cold is enough!

It's pretty gratifying when a plan or hunch comes together. Couldn't have happened to better people. Packy

Glad y'all seeing some action down there Randall.
See any bruisers around lately?
I've been meaning to get down there. Yet, looking for a tusk'r with a bit of heft, say north of 200# next time around.
