My performance = Disgraceful & Embarrassing.

Had an opportunity to kill about 20 hogs riding through fields in the back of a truck with 00 buckshot in my benelli SBE with an extended tube and my CZ 375. Ran right into a pack of about 15 and emptied my SBE twice without killing a single hog. Wounded a big boar and pulled out the 375, lobbing 4 shots at him from about 300-400 yds while running away from me. Hit him in the leg but couldn't follow his trail into a huge patch of sunflowers. Circled back on a 20 lb pig running away from me and blasted it with my 375...disemboweled it. A group of pigs ran across another field and we chased them down and this time I took out 5 of them with my SBE. As we drove around one of the fields looking for stragglers another pig ran right toward me in a state of confusion...he took a couple of shots of 00 up the snout.

We hit this first field with perfect timing but I just couldn't hit anything. I think I got excited when we ran them down and we were right on top of them. My father said that all the dust was flying up behind them...guess I wasn't leading them enough. I'll never hear the end of it.

Hunt with dogs tonight and tomorrow night and then work some more fields on Sunday night/Monday morning. Pics to follow

And to think, people have this much fun while the rest of us are stuck at work. Roll Eyes

Make sure you leave at least one for me, eh?

No kidding! I haven't hunted in 6 months and you are making me green with envy! Rattlesnaker, enjoy it while you can! Going to have to take you up on your offer to go hunting.

There are bad and mediocre days to balance out the really good one. This must mean you have a really good one coming up soon.

We had several good hunts but the rains made things a bit more difficult. All together we killed 14 hogs but about half of those were pigs. I ended the trip on a downer because I was hunting a big boar that we'd seen and never could catch up with him. The good news is that we'll keep hunting him. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.

Here are a few pictures from this weekend's hunt.

This is the pig I shot with my 375HH as he was running away from me.

Here are the 5 pigs I killed with the shotgun and the next picture is one of those pigs that I cooked for dinner that evening before our hunt.

This is just a picture I took of the sunset on the ranch we hunted that night.

Here is one of the hogs we caught with the dogs.

In this picture the dogs caught a hog in a tank and ended up drowning him before we could get him out. A couple of the dogs would get on his back and sink him and then go under water looking for him. This went on for about 10 minutes before he finally floated to the top and quit swimming.

Here are a few additional pictures of hogs that the dogs caught.

Just curious. It that Duct tape to prevent a hog from cutting the neck on the dogs? Or some other reason?
Great photos. I would love to get out there but I am swamped until the end of August when I swith over to hunt bear and deer.

Frank - that's actually not duct tape, although you are correct as to why it's on there. They are homemade cut collars made from kevlar designed protect a dog's neck from getting cut by a boar.

rattlesnaker:

In April the DRSS (Double Rifle Shooters Society) hunted in Crowell, Texas for a weekend. I was there, but at the time was using my old AR handle, Clark7781--which stopped working and I had to re-register.

We only bagged two hogs there. We should hunt with you next time!
