Really, two days ago I spent the night at a friend´s farm. there was a sorgum plantatation with lots of pig activity.

We (my hunting buddy and I) saw near 11 pigs.

We shoot 6 times...

We miss all of them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a disaster, tomorrow I will check the scopes. As I said, Iam very good with them, pigs just love me as I never hurt them.

If you hunt long enough, everyone will experience a miss. It's just part of the hunting equation.

But it takes a MAN to step up and admit it! I commend you for that -- and here's hoping the next shots you fire will find their way into some large slabs of bacon... Big Grin

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I am going today morning to check the scopes and maybe this evening I return to the farm, it's just an hour away from my house.

Thanks for the support, but I have never wounded or missed so much in so little time as this year, maybe I should consider hanging the rifles and play bridge with the ol'ladies Big Grin

Lorenzo,
I have a friend from Ireland who has a saying, it is, " A lie, well told, will serve as good as the truth anyday" and exageration always makes a story more exciting.

Next time you probably ought to tell it something like.

the nite was brite, the moon was rite, my bud and I had just satisfied a bevy of beautiful babes and decided to take the edge off by dusting off a couple of wild boars. Well we came up on a mess of hogs in the field. I picked out the biggest meanest one. He was so mean he was shitting nickels. I fired my first shot and hit him right between the eyes. He just blinked, snorted and spit out the bullet. I knew then that we could be in for a long night. Then the boar charged. My bud stood there and fired till he ran out of bullets, being the macho dude he is/was. I got ready to fire, but decided it might be smarter to retreat. To be sure I made my escape, I tripped my bud as I was taking off. When I came to his house today to see wheteher we would be having pork chops or not he did not answer the door. Oh well, evidently its not easy being macho,(or last). I think maybe he should have brought more bullets!

Bobby,
Gato and I hooked up about three weeks ago. Ended up having to drive 40 miles just to find a little fruit of the vine. We drained all the bota bags in the vicinity.
We're gonna hook up again late June. This time I'll be ready. I have a 500 gallon tank that I'll fill before I leave town(Three super-Walmarts within 5 miles of me). Hey Gato, can you say "Paisano"

My Hat is off to you Lorenzo. beer beer

In our modern world it seems extremely difficult for people/hunters, to admit to not killing everything they shoot at, at 500+ yards, uphill at a 48 degree angle, during the last 30 seconds of their hunt.

Misses happen if you shoot long enough and at enough stuff.

Best of Luck on your next hunt, and hopefully it was the scopes and not the excitement of the moment.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

My 7 y.o. son and I went out the other night and I let him shoot the first one. 60 pound pig at 40 yards, .223 to the back of the head, dropped in his tracks. I shoot the the next one 185 pound sow at about 130 yards, clean miss. My son pats me on the shoulder and says "Its o.k. Dad you'll do better next time"

Years ago a fellow named Art Linkletter published a book. As I remember the title was "Kids say the darndest things". You gotta love it. My three are grown now.
Seven is a good age. I found that having my children with me while doing things that I loved or was passionate about was translated to them on a level beyond words. Also it was a great time for communication, as I was not drilling them with questions and could use the time to make application to life's issues. Invest all the time you can with your son. It will pay dividends in the future.
Best to you and yours.

Gato,

My darling bride told me that its ok with her if I hang out with wine swilling, tequila and hog shooting old farts. Its also ok to go hunting as often as I like. However, if she finds out that I'm after those brown double breasted mexican bed thrashers, my cajohnes will be hanging on a wall rather than between my legs. So lets not even go there on wild wimmen, even if they are red headed and bow legged.

Reminds me of deer season a couple years ago. I sighted in my .243, as usual, before the first hunt. Made a minor adjustment to the windage. First hunt, a nice 12-point appears at about 100 yds. Careful aim with rest -- clean miss! The buck ran about 20 and stopped, trying to figure out what all the noise was about. The second shot hit him at least a foot from where I intended, but fortunately was enough to put him down. I could not believe I was shooting so poorly. Took the rifle to the range when I got home, and sure enough the windage was a good 12 inches off. When I removed the cap from the adjustment knob, the penny that I had used to adjust the windage before the season fell out. The penny was pressing in on the adjustment and moved the point of aim significantly.

Removing the penny cured the problem. dancing
