My faithful hunting partner has now been gone for over six weeks and hope is fading fast for his return. He just disapeared, leaving no trace, and dispite my wife and my best efforts, his disaperance is still a complete mystery.

With that in mind, I decided to post his last three catches.

Never knew a dog could change my life so, he was my first since childhood. Glad we had the short time together, and enjoyed the hunt so much, God he enjoyed the hunt. Lived for it, but was also a devoted friend and companion to me and my wife. No replacing him for sure.

But this is my new dogo, I just can't see living without one. Don't know if she will ever catch like "Dogo" but Blanca comes from good stock, both the sire and dame are hunters, but just like people you never know.

Babette my 7 month catahoula has done well in training, and ok on her 2 hunts, unfortunately they both were dry runs. Time will tell

Thanks Marco, I was hoping as well. Just have to take what life brings and go on. Gives me a little glimspe of what people go through when a child or love one goes missing. Don't ever want to go there.

There will be other hunts and other dogs, but there will only be one "Dogo". I have learned quite a bit about the breed in searching for his replacement, and I do have high hopes for Blanca, she is a sweetie in her own right. We shall see, and Babette has turned out to be beautiful with a nice personality, and I think she will do fine in the woods.

Take care,
Larry

I just hope the old man has enough gas to hang with them for a while.

My last two puppies came to us by 8 weeks and stayed 'til they passed at over 14. Worked with us. Jogged with us. Wandered the woods with us. Were our companions. Were our friends. Helped make my sons men of whom I am proud.

I still miss the boys. But am forever grateful to have had their friendship.

My most sincere condolences for your loss.

Mike

Thank you Mike, for your king remarks. Funny thing for most of my life I was not a dog man. My wife always had mutts (still does) which I generally considered a nusiance, I kind of like them now as well. Go figure.

So sorry to hear of your loss. THe good ones -- the truly special ones -- are rare indeed, and only those who truly love their companions can understand how strong such a bond can be.

My sincere condolences...

Thank you Bobby for those very kind words, they are apprecitated.

There was a strong bond between Dogo and me. I trusted that when he had a hold of a big one he would not let go until I got things in hand one way or another. On the other hand he depended on me to take care of things as quickly as possible to minimize the possibility of injury to himself. We were certainly interdependent.

It was easy Marco when I toasted Fred and Dogo to picture you with an up lifted glass as well. "to good dogs of every breed" beer

Sorry guys it has taken me sometime to respond to you're kind remarks, I've been bushhoggin, and haven't had much computer time.

Dom I'm trying to keep up my hope as well, and your experiences are encourging. My biggest fear is that somehow he has fallen into the wrong hands, but I can't dwell on it, as about a million things could have happened.

I will drink a toast to his return with you, and Marco, Juan, Bobby, and all my pals here on the pig forum when he returns. That would be a round I'd love to buy.

Juan I have bought another dogo, the little pup on this post, cost me more than I though I'd ever pay, especially for a puppy. I intend to hunt till I can't no more. I'm twice the age of most of the young people I hunt with, and I know it won't last forever, but as long as I can, I will.

Best Regards,
Larry

Aloha Larry,

I totally understand where youre coming from my friend. Sadly it has been the same here in the islands, where others have taken others dogs to either keep for themselves and/or sell them off to unknowing hunters on other islands. I had this happen where I went off island to hunt with a few friends and on the way home we spotted a dog on the side of the road. We pulled over and my buddy jumped out and called the dog over and I was like man that dog sure looks like our dog. Thats when my buddy read the name on the tag on his cut collar and it was my partners name. I jumped out of the truck and lo and behold it was a dog of ours that went missing roughly a year before this happened. That was a crazy situation that I had the hardest time getting over. How someone could take another hunters dog and do this instead of returning it to its owner. Obviously they found the dog with its ID still on it as they were using the same cut collar a year later so they cant say they didnt know who the dog belonged too. Very sad and disgusting if you ask me!!!

But like you said cant dwell on it and looks like he has tracking collars on him so thats about the best we as dog owners can do. Put tracking devices on our dogs and have ID on them so if found they can be returned to thier rightful owner.

Take care and Happy Hunting my Friend!!!

Dom

It's a shame that someone could stoop so low as to keep a dog, when they have the info. for his return. If someone has Dogo, I just pray it not a dog fighter, as I believe some of that is going on here or near here. Too many pitt type dogs going missing.

Anyway thanks for the encouragment, and am looking forward to reading some of your "happy" post in the future.

Larry, I always love reading your hunting stories, but this one breaks my heart, I'm a big dog guy too, and I really hope Dogo turns up. The good ones always got hard heads so you never know. I hope the pup turns out to be a good one for you. Steve.

Thanks a bunch Steve, I guess my hog stories were something of the adventures of Larry & Dogo. We had some fun, we really did.

The pups are good for licks if nothing else!

Thanks again,

Larry

Larry:

Don't give up hope, he could yet be found.

I know you have thought of this, and possibly done it, but I'd offer a $500 reward for his return, no questions asked, and spread that information near and far in your area.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Thanks Charlie, I agree with Marco, that is very good advise, but I've already done that. I really thought it would work too, cause times are pretty tough around here right now. Did get a bunch of calls about every white bull dog around, and some poodles, and one yeller lab.
