OK, OK...I know it's another hog taken with another 6.5...

But at least I did not make you look at another picture of my Contender rifle... Big Grin...but that's only because the grass was very wet this morning!

This guy went 259 pounds. He must have been fighting as he had several gashes on his body and a tusk broken off at the gums.

Bobby,

Wow ... you do have a good time don't you Wink

Heading to South Texas for February. Hope to drive which means I can take a couple of toys. One possibility is a Mark X in .264 Win Mag. Is as close to "bean field" rifle as I own ... shoots well with 125 gr Nosler Partitions.

Think these'd work on piggies? Thanks!

The piggies would not like those bullets at all... jumping

You can really reach out and touch 'em with that rig.

I'm getting the impression that its dangerous to be a pig in your neck of the woods.
I started my hunting career with a 6.5x55, and although I've moved to other calibres, have always had a soft spot for anything 264 Dia.
as they always seem to do the job.

Way to go there Bobby. I'm envious. I've been all over Kuai today talking to locals about hunting hogs and feral goats. May have to come back over and try my luck.
Twelve days before I get to go to my lease and try to bust some more hogs. Keep those pix coming.

I think we ought to make Bobby take us all to his "honey hole".

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Bobby, congrats on another fine kill, what is that 6.5 again, I've never heard of it. I have a 6.5-284, and thought that was something of an oddball, but I believe yours is off the charts. It does seem to work ok though!!

Larry-

It's the 30-30 case necked down to 6.5 and then blown out to minimum body taper/max capacity.

The only picture I could locate at the moment is one from a year or two ago. The 6.5 BB Imp (aka 6.5x30-30 AI) is in the center and is flanked by a .223 Rem on the left and a 30-30 factory load on the right.

It is perfectly suited to the Contender, my favored hunting platform. On average, it probably falls 300-350 fps behind your 6.5x284.

My 3 favorite loads clock 2509 fps (140 grain Sierra GK), 2626 fps(130 grain Accubond) and 2703 fps (125 grain Partition). The barrel is 26" and a 1:8 and is throated for the long, slender 140 grainers, and I primarily feed it N160. Nothing else comes close to N160 in terms of velocity in this particular barrel.

Sorry I did't have a better image for comparison.

This could be verging on blasphemy but is there a good 7MM wildcat in that power range I can get a barrel for my contener carbine? I have sooo many .284 bullets I just can't go 6.5. It hit me! the 7x30 Waters!

Rickt, you OK? Hope it didn't hit you too hard. The 7-30 Waters sounds good. But I have been stuck on .358 and .366. I have wondered about an Encore in 9.3X74 or X62. The X62 can be made from resized 30-06 if need be. Good luck. Packy

I have two contender carbines so am stuck with the milder cartridges. Notice the really good performance Bobby is getting out of his bullets using medium velocities.
