This may seem an odd request. I'm raising domestic hogs on pasture. From time to time I have trouble getting them from Point A to Point B. The Catahoula's have quite a reputation for hunting hogs. Do any of you know someone who uses them for working swine? **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.

I'd consider a breed with a bit more herding instinct. In my experience Catahoulas often acquire a taste for ears and testicles, sometimes ham. GW The possibilities for disaster boggle the mind.

My neighbor who is a serious Catahoula guy, the National Assoc. or whatever it is called has trials on his place just down the road from me at least once a year. He uses his to herd cattle, I don't know about hogs. When I run into him, I'll ask him and report back. Damn fine cattle dogs, BTW. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Catahoulas are "headers" you would probably do better with some type of "heeling" dog.

Get a border collie, mine will heard anything that you tell her to. Sheep, cattle, ducks, kids, cats, etc., it doesn't matter to her. She just loves to make things do what she tells them to do. She kind of takes after Wifezilla. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. Much appreciated all. I'd be mighty interested in what Mr. Gatogordo's pal has to say about using them with hogs. I can definitely understand why a heeling breed would be better than a header. The border collie is probably the most universal stock dog I've ever witnessed but these Catahoula's have peaked my interest unless they like "oysters" and hams better than I do. Thanks again fellas! **************************The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.

I had two of them at one time for about 20 years before they died..They are head dogs so not good on hogs I don't think, mine were not.. My favorite heelers are Australian Shepards (Aussys)..Ive had a number of them and have one now..Great dogs and they will heel anything. I talked with neighbor and he said it would take an exceptional Catahoula to do what you want, since it is not the normal way they handle animals. Like Atkinson above, he suggested a heeler, such as a Aust. Shepherd or Border Collie. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members.
