I went for a pig hunt the other day, My two hunting mates on this trip were 60 years of age on the low end, and close to 70 at the top. They have pighunted together for 45 years, thats pretty good going. The dogs found a nice eating pig pretty quickly, and I charged off to get it, filming as I did. Just as I got too it, It just disappeard, and there was that horrible thump from underground that I'm getting to know too well. This hole wasn't too deep fortunatly, about 4 meters, and I yelled out for the other two to come down and give me a hand before I jumped on in. it turned out to be an underground stream, as black as pitch. I could hear the dog bailing but couln't see anything, so just crept forward with my hand out, hopeing not to bump into a set of teeth. First thing I touched turned out to be the pigs tail, so It was fairly easy. On the way down I'd seen a really large pig print, and on the climb back, one of the dogs took off, and a running battle soon ensued for the next couple of hours. The pig kept doing a big circle, and when we worked it out, set ourselves up with the other dogs where we thought he'd run, it nearly worked, as he, and the dog on him, came within 120 meters, and at the next bail, the rest of the dogs took off, but something stopped them only 60 meters from us, probably a limestone cliff, the pig went over, and we lost him right there. Bugger! They don't get that big for no reason around Te kuiti though. heres a bit of vid of the days action. Note, its not often nowdays that I'm the young apprentice who gets all the dirty jobs, and is butt of all the jokes, but I'll put up with it from these two. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJg_u_0XEVA This is the second time in a short while I've had to get a dog out of a hole, the other one was a bit harder, and can be veiwed here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mknQy9hdAyc this hole was about 20 meters deep, and required a team of 4 to get the dog out. | ||
