Zero hog traffic near either of my cage traps or the large pen trap either. They seem to be running the creek bottom, so maybe I need to move my trap--

I would like one of your kind of traps. When I see the pictures the hogs are usually already dead and sometimes even loaded into the truck. What brand is that? Be Well, Packy.

Nah',

Its a home-made trap that has had a 2'extension welded on.

Big boars especially ram that section and usually get their head caught.

Typically have to turn the trap over and let gravity do the heavy lifiting

There is a section that needs to be repaired,

but a sledge works just fine to bend it back in shape.

One of the sows was over 100 lbs and she got her head caught.

This is a commercially available trap. It about 4' x 4' x 8'. Get it at tractor supply or numerous other farm and ranch supply outlets. Google hog traps.

We Run a cable through a pully at the top and back, then take a tent peg or spike nail and stick it in the ground, pour corn or other attractant under the cable. When they come in and root under the cable, it pulls the peg out of the ground and the door drops.

This one is a home-made trap with angle iron and 4 x 4 panel.

We use the same type of trip mechanism

Anywho, I'm off to the lease for a few days. Very little signal there.

See ya next week.

Ya'll endeavor to persevere!

One thing I have done is install a feeder on top--keeps it baited and keeps 'em coming when it isn't set. Plus I like the idea of a longer trap than 8' to accommodate more pigs, though an 8' trap does a good job.

Even dozen shoats in this trap I bought from Bobby T a few years back.

I got to get down there amongst the cacti somewhere and drop a couple hogs. I'm down to my last shoulder roast and one backstrap.
Backstraps!
Get dem hogs.

That sow was One Stuck Hog! Looks like she
fought it hard.

To start with I'd of used a tighter
mesh, or chainlink fencing.

Only such trap I ever made was about
20"W x 30" h & 4' long with 1/2" x 1" mesh for bobcats.
Collected several of 'em. And a skunk the one
weekend I let the younger bil's check it.
MIL was sure pissed!

One of their neighbors had a ditch along side
the road and a badger dug under it. Thinking
it would punch a hole in the ditch. He asked
me to try to trap it.

Set right at the hole. Sure thing, trap was
torn to hell, big hole in the bottom and fuzzy
went back in his hole.

He had a 1000gal water tank on an old truck.
"ahh, we'll get him now!" Took my old 922 and
stood down a bit from the hole while he and bil
poured water down it from a 3" hose.

Several minutes and no action. We got to wondering
if we'd drowned it or a bottomless hole.

OF course soon as I dropped my caution the water
exploded out of there and soaked me. I coudn't
see for the water in my face. Something hard
hit me and was gone. When it was all over with
I was just about naked and in rags. Just a few
minor scratches. Never got off a shot or even
saw what hit me other than lots of water. The
other guys thought it was real funny though.

Next thing we did was put the water hose on the
exhaust pipe and filled the hole around it with
dirt for half hour. Never had a sign of life
show up there again.

I learned my lesson about badgers though.

George--that is a heck of a story--and all my time in Tx and I've never seen a badger.

Dusty:

I never actually got to see that one.
Big dark blob in a face full of muddy water.

The ONLY one I've ever seen was crossing
the highway when I was trucking.

I've always wanted a nice badger fur.

Glad you enjoyed it, the other two guys
seemed to at the time too.
