A friend called me and wanted me to take his two boys hunting Fri. night. I had to attend a Christmas Party with my wife that night so we got a late start.I arrived at the camp about 11:30 pm and by the time we got dogs collared etc. it was after midnight. The hogs were rooting in an old peanut field and the farmer is going to plant spring wheat on Monday and wanted us to slow down the pigs. Some of the pigs were already in the field and the rest were in the weeds in the corners of the circle. I dropped 4 curs and the race was on. They didn't get them stopped until they were about 3/4 of a mile away in a prickly pear flat. I was late getting to them because I got hung up in the wire of a gap. Ever try and untangle barbed wire from under a minitruck in the dark with no flashlight while listening to the dogs bay? It is surprising how fast you can do it. Now if my wife ask me to fix the yard fence it might take me a week. By the time I arrived the dogs had figured I wasn't coming so they caught about a 175 sow with no ears.I had some pople waitimg along the traill where the pigs were coming from and the said the pigs were moving so fast they couldn't get a shot and while they were wandering what had happend here came the dogs following the same trail. I asked them how many hogs and dogs passed and they didn't know. I told them I was going to get me some new Shotgunners because they didn't get any. OK, back to the dogs. We killed the sow and loaded her pon the suzuki and went back the weeds in the corner of the circle. I figured the hogs would be gone but dropped the curs anyway. It wasn't long until I heard a bay and the curs tried to catch but got whipped back. WE let the catch dogs go and when I got there it was a crippled boar. Looked like he had be shot in the left front shoulder but had recovered. The weeds were thick and when I got there there was a dog where I wanted stick so I straddled the hog and stuck him with my left hand, which was a mistake brcause the hog fell over on my hand and knife. He was still wrestling with the dogs and I couldn't find my knife. Just then my buddy arrived and finished him off. Two dogs left out in all the ruckus and were bayed in the next field in some thick camphor weeds. We had to go to the other end of the field to cross in the field but when we were opening the gate we heard them bayed in another pasture. the hog broke again and went down to the corner of a net wire fence and squatted in the camphor weeds. When I arrived the dogs were coming in and out the weeds. Since it was close to the boundary fence where we can't go during deer season I caught the dogs and went back to camp. I didn' t have my camera along. Wouldn't have had time to take picture anyway. The after dayilght I wen back to the boar to look for my knife. Couldn't find it anywhere so I gutted the boar and ther it was on the inside. I thought I turned the knife loose but I guess when he fell it pushed the knife through my fingers and into the pig. http://s131.photobucket.com/al...current=IMG_2570.jpg The pictures here are of the dogs . I took them the next day. The Curs Quirt Trouble Ray Buddy Catch Dogs Mason Heyena Lucy | ||
