G/Day folks, only new to the site. Scratching for a way to properly introduce myself - I've been hunting for over 30 years, mostly with a bow but my Shotgun and Lever rifles have taken the front row last couple of trips. I have gotten into the habit of getting close and that's how I hunt with my firearms At present I'm having a 303.35 put together that will give me a little more thump than my Rossi .357 and Marlin .44 mag Lever rifles can. It's based on a No1 Mk3 Lithgow Living on past glories I'm afraid with this nice Boar I shot last November in South West Queensland. There had been drought breaking rain in the months prior to this hunt hence the deceptive lush vegetation - it does not last out there, usually very marginal cattle and sheep country. There has been a lot of follow up rain out west this year and this combined with family and work commitments has ruined my hunting to this point. Hope to get out chasin Feral Pigs again over the new year - Weather Permitting ! I used a Rossi M92 .357mag loaded with 158 gr Hornady XTP projectile and 15 grns of ADI2205. As he ran across me at around 35 yards I swung past him, touched off a round - Talk about poleaxed - he just disappeared. I could hear him in the grass and prepared for a cranky Boar to charge out of the long grass as in all honesty the little .357 is marginal on bigger Boars. I wandered in ready to not scream like a girl if he had a go and was relieved to find him kicking his last. The bullet had shattered his neck He had the best tusks taken off this property I'm reliably told and measured 24 5/8th" on the Douglass points system. Not a world beater but for this district and the harsh country a real thumper regards Jacko "To my deep mortification my father once said to me, 'You care for nothing but shooting, dogs and rat catching, and you will be a disgrace to yourself and all your family.' Aloha Jacko, Nice report! I too LOVE hunting with rifles designed 100+ years ago. I especially like lever guns owning a Winchester 94 in 357, a Marlin in 44 mag, and a couple Marlin 30/30s. Keep us posted on your 303/35, sounds very interesting. I have an Enfield (Lithgow) rebarreled to 45/70 with sporter forestock. A friend in Perth, (Western Oz) sent me a target peep sight as a gift, and I love it, keeps my 400 grain handloads in 3 inches at 100 yards. This rifle is going on my next feral cattle hunt.
