There have been no pig pictures at the wife's place in months. There was a pig or two showing up at 1 to 2 AM. I suspect when the landscape lights ran out of battery. I replace them with one of those green supposed pig lights. Nothing! Go, check the camera and this! No sows in sight. Appears to be several liters together. Only one morning the nothing!

Around here, hogs are mega-unpredictable. There's pressure on them from all sides, and they also tend to go where the easiest food sources are. For months, there was no activity here. Then, like magic, they're back -- though not nearly the numbers we used to see 20 years ago.

Especially if one considers the prevailing lunar cycle, deer are easy to pattern. But hogs...they'll leave you pulling your hair out LOL.

On my place, they have seasonal ranges. In addition, they are directly impacted by water levels. A major change in water levels almost always will result in a major change in hog population.

What the neighbors do also has an impact. Our deer season ends in late January. Most of my neighbors quit feeding. By February, I have hogs everywhere.

In the final analysis, there is a simple reason for their movement. Because they want to.

Have had pretty sporadic traffic at this place for about a month, then two nights ago this mob showed up--you just can't tell.

Some of our neighbors are putting up net wire. Either to keep goats and deer in or pigs out. The net wire cuts off some travel lanes. There is a lot of house building around! I have cleared out a lot of brush on the upper part away from the creek. With the houses around I will not randomly shoot at stuff any more. Only out of my towers or at the back stops. There are two holes of water in the creek, the rest is dry from fence to fence. Both holes are near my feeder. I have been invited to set up shop on other property again but I am just getting too old for that. Y'all will have to keep writing good stories with pictures!!!

Creek is about 50-60 yds from this trap and has standing water in several places. Hard to see in the pic but several of the hogs have “wet lines” on them from wading across.
