Fantastic boar and a hunting experience not to be forgotten! So much for our resident pigsperts that say a wild boar can't exceed 350-400 lbs!

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Sorry to tell our Expert but they do get bigger. Its like a Big Mouth Bass over 10 pounds, they are rare but they are there.
My brother has a 450# mounted and my first cousin has a #525. Both from the Green Swamp of Central Florida.

Hey, fat as I am, if I was out of ammo and guns and that monster was still moving, I'd have given him a good race for the truck. There is a time to abandon ship. dancing

I'm sure he could easily outrun me normally, but I'm not sure he can outrun me while I'm piggy backing with a death grip on his shirt tail. Wink

Holy Sh*T! 350 kilos (771 pounds) is one hellova boar in anybody's book!!!

When you see something like that, I'd not be surprised if your first thought would be "did I bring enough gun?" I'd sure as heck prefer to have a BIG one at that point ;-)

Super pig, Weidmannsheil to the successful hunter!

350 kg (even live weight) sounds like a lot.

This one weighed 120 kg dressed, call that 160-180 kg live weight. So you need something around double the size of this to get to 350...

Now the Hogs in Florida that are of such large size are not Russians. They are of other breeds that have gone feral.
I dont think its going to make much difference when it runs over you...lol

Profy, that is where the BIG ones come from. I have never seen pigs from Usuria (sp?) where the largest are supposed to live. But I do occasionally come across pictures of monsters from Belarus, the Ukraine and Mother Russia herself. They are few and far between, but those countries have the potential to produce 300+ kg piggies.

Hi Mike!
If we look the boars at Europe...
One could get early such boars, like in the picture, close to Moscow, Yaroslavl. But in last 10 years no more.
At the moment such boars are to be met only in the areas in Russalnd ( Ural, Omsk, Khabarovsk) and in Belarus (southeast) and in some regions in Mogilev, Vitebsk.
The boar was shot in december 2010 in Belarus:

The tusks ( 28cm).

Why did he use buckshot ??? I would never recommend that.I wonder how many shot penetrated into the vitals ? Anyway his IPSC training came in handy.

With the shield that the big boys have, buckshot is not a good choice.
Now the brass slugs by European Cartridge Unlimited or the stee slugs by DDupleks (Hexolit 32) would handle these giants easily.
These slugs are designed for smoothbores.

i dont recommend buckshot for anything buckshot is only good at less than 10 mts even in the shields fail at that distance.Don Heath even hates buck shot for using in big cats ,lately i abandoned buckshot .Chuck TAYLOR DEMOSTRATED HOW POOR IS ITS PENETRATION IN NUMEROUS TESTS EVEN AGAINS WINDSHIELDS CAR GLASSES.I this case the client insisted that he would use only buckshot....

There's a reason Jeff Cooper called pistols chambered in 9mm "mouse" guns.

12 shots with the mouse gun --- how many hits?

Can we have some pics with the hunters sitting alongside their pigs instead of way behind them in the background which tends to enlarge the size of the animal.

Was this weighed on a scale or is that your estimate? Either way it is a big pig.

Mike

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

That is a big pig but 350 kilos is stretching it.....for a true wild pig. I would say not more than 150 kilos. Was it weighed?
