Pulled the camera card from this spot--retiring things for deer season for the landowner--and here are two "different" pics

Weird antlers on the buck, and this piggie gots no tail! How am I gonna claim the county bounty now?

Looks like the oinker still has 3 or 4 inches of his tail.

I had a similar buck on my tree farm for several years. The first year I saw him, I almost culled him as a spike. Careful observation showed his antlers had small forks, rendering him illegal to shoot. I saw him for subsequent seasons and his antlers never substantially changed, no real spread or points. He looked remarkably like a pronghorn, never came close to a 13" spread.

Yep--pig does have a short tail, so his name is "Stubby" now. If he survives deer season, he'll get his next year.

We had a cocker spaniel we named Stubbs.

And a cat we named Bobcat after I slammed a door on his tail and a couple inches of it rotted off. Hell of a deal, he never gave any indication it happened but, he sure avoided doors after that. Vet said just watch it for infection. Seems like in about a month it had dried out enough it just fell off. Sure looked funny though, but, he didn't mind.

Read Sunday's paper where someone paid $400 to some ripoff vet for a tail cap thing when a door caught hers. Thinks a friend should pay for it.

Back in the early 50's folks had a red colored pig we fed out. Mom and I were feeding Rosy when she got in the feed shed. Mom pulled on her tail and it came off at the base. Just for kicks and meanness she wrapped it up and put it in Dad's lunch box the next day. After the joking, he hung it on the bulletin board in the lunch room.

Looks like the deer's left front leg/foot could be injured. If so it may explain the weird antlers, especially the one on the right side.

I can't remember exactly, but I think it has to be the hind leg that has to be injured to cause the deformity of the opposite side antler.

I have the antlers of a 12 point buck that had an injured hind leg.
Hunting with my daughter one fall, we saw a limping buck playing hide and seek with a hunter across the south fence When he jumped into our pasture we saw the big 12 point rack, but not long enough for a shot.
The following year I shot that buck and a big spike running with him just at dusk. Upon coming down from my rim rock blind I saw that it was the limping buck, starved almost to death. All I saved was the odd rack. Fortunately the spike was big and fat and good eating.

I could not remember for sure, but I thought that an injury to a hind leg would cause a deformity of the antler on the opposite side of the body.

Right hind leg/Left antler or Left hind leg/Right Antler.

I had heard the same thing. However, several years ago I shot a buck with a beautiful seven point antler on his left side and a big, deformed clump of points sticking up off of his right. I had pictures of him in velvet and could see he was holding his left front foot up and walking on three legs. When I shot him his hoof was rotting and his foot was badly infected. So, I don't think it matters exactly where the injury is, just that if injured on one side of the body it can effect antler on the other side.

I could be wrong, but at the rate antlers grow versus the rate flesh decays are different and that buck may have had the deformed antler for several seasons.

Here is an article on the subject. https://www.qdma.com/leg-injur...ffect-antler-growth/

The shoulders seem a bit out of shape/odd as well on that buck.
