Yesterday afternoon Son-in-law told be he had a hog problem on the 20(acres) he owns across the road from the 200(acres) he owns. I said let's go get them, so we made plans to meet the next morning and give it a try.

Woke up to a pretty good rain storm, but it stopped by the time I got my gear together. Son-in-law showed up at the prearranged location and we let the dogs out. The dogs hit on the 20 almost immediately. The bay never formed properly and a hog went by me at about 150 mph and I sent a .41 mag slug his way but it never caught up. The dogs were in pursuit and I heard Stuart's 30/30 bark seconds later.

Hooked back up with Stuart and he indicated he was pretty sure he missed as he didn't have much of a shot. Not surprising as the hog was doing 150 mph. The dogs started returning one by one with shame written on their faces. We were all pretty disgusted as to how all that turned out.

Made a pretty long hunt to the river and found nothing. Decided to go check out Stuart's pasture on the 200 with two dogs out, Babette and Claude, the rest were riding in the dog box.

Got to the pasture and immediately saw movement. Didn't hardly get my words out to indicate what I saw when Stuart jumped out the truck with his Winchester model 94. The dogs were headed in the right direction, but had not yet scented the pigs, yep two of them. Stuart took a rest on a fence post and fired. I saw one pig run across the pasture and I ran to the back of the truck and let the dogs out. Everybody took off across the pasture with me bringing up the rear. Stuart indicated that he had got the pig he shot at. Soon the dogs bayed and I heard a pig squeal in the woods at the far end of the pasture. Every thing suddenly went quiet, I didn't go into the woods but took up a stand so to speak at the wood line. I was looking at my GPS tracker when the little pig burst out the woods, I was behind the eight ball on this one and my three shots were in vain.

Well the dogs never got back on this one, a really small pig, so they were embarrassed that they had let it get away, my shooting was embarrassing, and all in all, not such a good hunt. But it was a hunt and we brought some meat home.

Get's worse, went on patrol with out the dogs. Decided to climb into a deer stand, but before that happened, got a call from nature, one that had to be addressed. Well with my pants still down, I see this pig come out of a slew, and moving towards some tall stuff. Had to hobble off to my rifle, and take a shot off my hind legs at about 200 yds. At the shot it seemed that the cross hairs were a bit back. The pig ran off into the tall stuff, while I went to retrieve my binoculars. To my amazement the hog made a brief reappearance, but I wasn't ready. Last time I saw him, could find no blood and was unable to track. Frowner

Ahh, come on Larry, you know too well there's days or weeks like that.
Don't take it so hard!
It'll get better maybe even next time.
Thanks for sharing the frustration we all go thru at times.

Well George the next time was this morning. It didn't get better. Right off I got my four wheeler stuck in a slew and could not pry it out. While walking out my Dogo, Blanca mysteriously disappeared. Yelled my lungs out and circled the pasture twice, no Blanca. What the hey?

Went back by truck to see if I could get to the four wheeler and low and behold there was Blanca about 100 yds from the wheeler. Pulled the wheeler out with a chain so at least I broke even today.

The weather is suppose to be cool in the morning so I plan to try again. Hope springs eternal in the heart of a pig hunting fool.

Larry:
It just might be time to kick back a couple weeks and let it rest. Do something else instead. I take my frustrations out by hammering on my welding table at times. It's 3/4" plate so it can take some heavy beatings, haha!

Hang in there, it can only get worse! Hey, you got it pulled out and didn't break anything, right? Man you got lucky there so be happy!

Can't George it is unusually cool right now, must make hay while it is light so to speak.

Put corn on the ground, taking a stand to put a pig on the ground. Gonna walk, so I don't stick anything.
