After reading a report in this forum about Tactical Hog Control, I couldn't resist and booked a weekend hunt for the middle of October. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I can honestly say that everything on this hunt was exactly as promised. Jed and Clark do a fantastic job and really have their hunting down to a science.

My original hunting partner backed out on me at the last minute, but Jed was able to find another hunter who was interested in hunting with them again to fill the empty spot. He ended up being a great guy and it really worked out.

We met at a Mexican restaurant in Madisonville, TX around 6:00 and had some dinner. Over dinner, Jed went through how the equipment worked and what their strategy is. I'll admit, I was a little concerned when he told me that they'd taken 201 pigs off of this ranch, which was a pecan orchard, since August.

I had never used any sort of night vision equipment before. The equipment they have is absolutely top of the line. When the moon was up, you could easily see almost a mile. Even after the moon set and there was nothing but star light, you could still see 300-400 yards. Oh, and if you ever do this hunt, don't forget to look at the stars with you goggles on. I had no idea that there are that many stars in the sky.

The first four pigs we took were all single boars. A couple of them were pretty big, I would guess around 250 pounds.

After we shot the fourth one, I asked the guys if they ever ran into groups of sows and piglets. Not that I was complaining, but I just thought it was odd that we'd only seen lone boars. About a half an hour later, we ran into a group of around 20 sows and young pigs. We were able to walk up about fifty yards from them and then cut loose. We managed to kill six out of that group. We even had one sow circle around behind us and charge! Some quick shooting by Clark kept that from getting out of control.

While this is definitely not fair chase hunting, it's about as much fun as you can have with your pants on. Aside from just being good guys, Clark and Jed work their butts off to make sure you have a good hunt. I know I'll be going back!

Congrats on a great hunt!! I agree, it is just about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. Scroll down a bit and you can read the article I wrote on THC in "AR Guns & Hunting"

I have done the night time hog hunt on the Wild River Ranch outside of Victoria, Tx. We got within 50 feet of single hogs. I watched ears twitch, jaws pop, feet stamp, and hogs drop. This is a pure fun hunt and will do it again!
