Spring turkey season has been good for hoglets

It is spring turkey season in Texas during the month of April.

Went up two weeks ago and nailed five hogs and a tom....

3 of four nailed with the Dakota

and one I snared

which I dispatched with the Glock 20 SF.

I always try to make at least two trips to my lease during the spring season, so I went back up last thursday. Got into the stand about
6:15 Friday morning and wathched the day come alive. First hog came in about 6:40. At that time he/whe was just a shadow. Feeder went off at 7 AM and here they came!

Nailed the sow first. The shoats did not have enough sense to run. They just stayed there and kept eating. I had six bullets, and I always save one, so I shot four more. I'd hoped to get a couple doubles, but the pigs did not co-operate. BTW, The Steyr shoots a five shot group MOH (minute of hoglet) at
100 yds.

Set some snares and got a nice boar Saturday morning. I did not weigh him, but he was a thick one!

Not to bad for April. A nice tom and 11 hoglets.

Between the sow and boar this weekend, they pretty much filled up a 160 qt. cooler!

ya!

Awesome! Congrats! Always enjoy your hog reports and pictures! Thanks for posting. How many hogs do you think you have on and abouts the property?

Cheers

Thank you sir. I enjoy both the hunting and posting pix.

The ranch where I have my tresspass lease is 60,000 acres plus. The area we lease is +/- 1,700 acres. It is surrounded by hundreds of square miles of undeveloped land. Any where it is not game proof fenced the hogs can range.

I've no idea what the population density is. I do know that I have 5 game camera set out, and one of my buds has a dozen or so. We have pix of hogs on multiple game cameras every night.

I have done some hog snaring and a couple of things I noticed about snaring. Many times the hog is still alive when you get to him and they are not in a friendly mood. At times it appears other hogs have killed and eaten the snared hog as there are signs of an epic battle , blood everywhere and not much hog left.

George,

I try to go monthly. During spring turkey, dove season, archery season (october) rifle season (Nov 1- Jan ) I go twice a month or more.

I figure I make between 15 and 18 trips per year.

ya!
