I am planning a hog hunt in TN for this Jan. I have a 14" contender barrel that i just may have to take with. I've never hunted hogs before and can't decide on the bullet to load. I want good penetration so i was thinking either 300 gr. nosler partition or 300 gr. barnes X. Or would i be better of with a 405 gr. hard cast? Decisions!!! I am planning on keeping presures mild to moderate. Your experience welcome. Greg

Any of those will work. I like the Hornady 350 gr RN which is kind of in the middle of your selections. Out of a rifle, I shoot them at about 1750-1800 fps, but I'm sure they'd work just as well somewhat slower. As in any bullet, shot placement is more important than velocity or, to some extent, size. Don't put a hot load in front of being able to place it accurately. Good hunting.

mike shoots the 350 Hornady in a 450 marlin at 2100, and they hold up well... the 405 rem in a 450 alaskan is past failure at 2250... but, at 1900, they work pretty darn well... the 300 HP from hornady is a grenade! jeffe
