Old school math, Well I went to my lease last Tuesday. Stayed through Saturday afternoon. Final tally: 5 hogs trapped 5 hogs snared. Mornings hunted: 0 Mornings slept in late: 4 Guess I’m getting old and lazy. Almost like jug fishing or trot-lining. Got there too late Tuesday to go out and set snares or set the pen as my get up and go had got up and went! Spent the morning and part of the afternoon Wednesday setting snares and building a gate for a pen. Thursday the action started. Got this guy in a snare. He was so twisted in the cedar and cat claw that I could only see a patch or two of darkness. However, he let me know he was there and was none too happy. I let loose with my Glock 20 and dropped him like a bad habit! He was all tangled up and heavy to boot, but I managed to cut the snare cable and get him in position to drag him out with a strap and my ATV Not much for tushes, but good size for skinning. We checked the other snares but got nothing till we hit my bud’s pen. There were 7 in the pen. When we let loose they went bat-schitt crazy and two got out. We nailed 5 there. After that it was all snare action. Snared a good sized sow and popped her with my AR. This ol’ boy was the highlight of the trip. He was a bruiser. My bud shot him at 10 paces, three times in the head/neck with 230gr. Hardball out of a 45 ACP. We figured that would do for him, decided we would let him die and come back later. When we got back I expected to see him where he left. When we rode up and I did not see him I told my bud, I can’t believe that. Any one of those three shots should have settled his hash. Three shots to the head and then he broke the snare and took off. I said I was not about to go into the bush tracking him. That’s when I spied him. Nope, he tore up the whole area in a 90 degree arc and managed to lodge himself at the end of the snare under a cedar tree. one bad mamma jamma got some pretty good tushes. Snared two more sows for a total of 10 for the trip and 21 for the last 60 days! Ya! GWB

Well done, my friend! I always enjoy reading about your adventures. The revolver in the photo of the 5 took me by surprise. I didn't know you spun cylinders. Good-looking gun, nonetheless. GW: You told me about it, but, no pics. Thanks for sharing on here so I could see 'em. Dandy size on several. Quite a wagon load there. That's off to a great start for the summer. We'll expect to see more before long. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Holy pig-fest batman! I've lived a sheltered life having never killed a pig. Zeke

Don't feel too bad about that "sheltered life" part. I'm 65 and from the "Popeye" generation. For the longest, I thought that like "Olive-Oyl" a she-male was a female of the opposite sex. It was not until several years after I got online that I found out what was the current definition of a she-male. yowsir! GWB

We're within 2 years of the same age and sometimes I think it's best to live a sheltered life. Your example/case in point. I still need to kill a hog and not break the bank.... the "piggy" bank. LOL Best to you Geedub, Zeke

That was a great time in my book. It would be interesting to see how you made the snares. Do you put bait around them? ALLEN W. Palmer, I don't make the snares. I could but at less than $4 per snare, I prefer doing something else with my time. I've bought snares from several outfits, but for the last two or three dozen I've bought my snares from Boarmasters Here is a link www.boarmasters.com. I usually buy the dyed snares. I do make up the 10' wire rope leader that I attach to the snare. One can watch numerous videos of snare prep and setting on youtube. I'm of divided opinion as to baiting vs. non-baiting of snares. As the land I hunt has cattle and deer, in most instances I do not set up on open "runs". Rather I find holes in the fences that the hogs are using for runs. If I do bait using corn or an attractant. I place that about 6-10' away from the fence. That way I don't have to worry about a deer sticking his antlers or head in the snare and raising up and getting caught. Ideally what you want is the hog to be on the move rather than moseying thru. Catch more that way. oh yeah, almost forgot. another reason I don't put em' out in the open on a trail......... can be embarrasin' if you're with a bud (or even if you're by yourself) and you end up face down in the mud! ask me how I know! ya! Thanks for the explanation GWB. That looks like a fun way to get in some handgun shooting and get rid of some pests at the same time. ALLEN W. Hey there guy! Long time no speaky! How have you been? You still got your place in east Texas. Glad to see you're still among the land of the living! Best, GWB

Yes. Still alive. I have the place in East Texas although I did't get out there much the last two years because of work. I have a whitetail hunt on the schedule this year with Mike McKinney (WTO). I'd like to get a nice one for the wall. I've become more of a lurker than a poster on the forums. Maybe I finally realized my opinion wasn't any better than anyone else. I really enjoy people posting about their new rifles and recent hunts. I enjoy Bobby's posts too because I get the story, the dead hog picture, the details on the bullet and usually a nice picture of the bullet when he recovers them.

Yeah, but opinions are like noses, most smell, but what the hey, your's is as good as any. Miss seeing your stuff. I don't watch the American Big game hunting thread as much as the hogs forum. Be sure an send a PM when you have pix of that wall-hanger this fall. And Bobby, he's da Man. Can just walk outside any nite he feels like and perforate a hoglet. Some guys have all the fun! Oh well, I predict that thumpin' will be going down soon! ya! GWB
