In late March my family will be visiting Dallas so my high school junior daughter can look at SMU. I am hoping that I can find a hog hunting ranch or outfitter so my son and I can slip away and do some hog hunting. We could stay at the hunting property if it is an inconvenient drive, or we could return to the Dallas hotel if it is close enough. We would like to both stand hunt and track or stalk. Game processing facilities and shipping would be very helpful since we will be flying to Dallas. My family will be flying from the Washington DC area with a two day stop in New Orleans to look at Tulane, but I will be joining them from the Dominican Republic. I can have my wife fly my 14yr old son's rifle and mine down, but a couple of rental or loaner rifles would make her life (and so mine) easier. It would be great if we didn't have to rent a car, but that is no big deal. Would like a fully guided hunt since our hog experience is limited. Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks, JPK Free 500grains

I think you're going to have a hard time CLOSE to Dallas fulfilling all your requirements unless you want to hunt a put and take place. There's a good huntable population of hogs IN DALLAS, but they won't let the public hunt them. I would say you could come over and hunt my place for free but I'm way too low tech for your many requirements. Not to mention I'm about 3 hours drive from Dallas. However, I might can help with some insights into your daughter's college choices. The salutatorian of my son's (who was valedictorian) high school, now a sophomore, goes to SMU and loves it. Of course, he's on a full scholarship which helps ease the pain of tuition, etc costs. If your daughter would like to communicate with him, I can probably put you/her in touch. OTOH, I spent many wasted (in more ways than one) years attending Tulane Univ. My daughter (another valedictorian ) was offered a small scholarship there last year and I told her "No way." New Orleans society, then and now, revolves around the consumption of large amounts of alcohol, not to mention other intoxicating or hallucinating substances. Good school, great food, not such a great environment, especially for a female IMO. Don't get me wrong, I completely trust my daugter, now an "A" (so far )student freshman at UT Austin, but that doesn't mean I wanted to throw her into a lion's den, so to speak. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. You might call this guy up and ask him for help....looking at his site I don't think he is offering what you want any longer but you never know until you ask. The Broseco ranch is due south of me on the Sulphur River and should have plenty of hogs but is about 2 hours plus drive from Dallas. By the way, I don't know him, have just heard of him a time or two, no real solid information. BRODAX Wildlife Solutions, LLC Zach Willeford Wildlife Biologist, Owner 903-575-7969 In addition, I assume this place is still operating, owned by a surgeon in Dallas, about 1 1/2 hours drive......supposed to be very nice, but I haven't been there. http://www.bigwoods.net/ FWIW you are coming at a good time to hog hunt. I always see more hogs and hog movement during the first 4 months of the year than any other. Probably because of forage getting scarce until spring growth comes on. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Give Bill Bowles a call (or look at his website) at Trinity Outfitters (214) 728-1238, they hunt hogs about 30 miles south of Dallas on the Trinity River...lots of pigs and fair prices. Quite a character, too. Karl Karl Evans

Thanks Gatogordo, looks like Zach still has some options, in fact, looking at his website, looks like one might fit really well. JPK Free 500grains

If you elect to hunt on the Broseco, or anywhere within a reasonable distance of my location, and if they don't have ranch rifles, I can bring a couple of rifles of just about any caliber/configuration you choose for you and your son to use. Broseco is about 25 mi from me, running W of the intersection of I30 and 259. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Thanks Gatogordo, that is a kind offer. I left Zach a message and am waiting for a return call. K Evans, I called Bill Bowles and he isn't doing hog hunts, but was very kindly helpful when I spoke with him. Thanks for the lead. JPK Free 500grains

For game processing, Kuby's is highly recommended. http://www.kubys.com/wildgame.asp analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.
