Aloha OldSarge, If you're looking for another subspecies of porker, you may want to put on your list the Niihau feral pig. Domestic stock was never introduced to the island. The Niihau pig is indigenous and was introduced about 1,100 years ago. It is a true Polynesian variety. They are smaller framed with longer snouts, big ears that stand straight up, have exceptionally big tusks for body size, and act more like wild dogs. Even if not cornered or trapped, they will sneak around you and take a swipe at you from different directions, especially if they know that you are looking the other way. On you next Hawaiian vacation, consider a one day side trip to Niihau. Geoff | ||
