......must be the heat. Been in high mid 90s every day for a couple of weeks.

Matt Salm from AR hunted here for a couple of days in early May, went home with 5 hogs in ice chest, he killed 4 of them. Next Kensco, who hunts hard, and, if he could shoot, would be a good hunter, hunted for 2 days, saw one group of 2 hogs and killed one. After Kensco left on Sunday, I had a friend, against my strong advice, come over with a thermal imaging night scope to hunt for a couple of days. I had visions of dead hogs everywhere. Hunted 2 nights and saw ZERO hogs, lots of deer and coons but no pigs. Sometimes they start to feed in daytime late summer, we'll see, until then, no one is going to come here to hunt pigs.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

My boss sent me a video from his phone two days ago of a group of decent sized hogs wallowing in one of the ponds on one of the properties he manages, at about 1:30/2:00 in the afternoon and the temp was in the upper 90's.

yeah, hogs definitely like water/wallowing when it gets hot, but we've got lots of water so nothing concentrates them until it gets really dry.

We are still on the edge of the drought, some placesc around here have a decent amount of water while other places are beginning to get low.

Add to that everyone around here has been working overtime haying or combining wheat so some of the food sources are disappearing.

No wild hogs around here.
BUT: today we had our First decent rain
of the year. .7" or a touch over in two
sessions. This makes 1.2" for the year.
The rest were .1-.2" at a time.

Lot's have been going over to the N and S though.

I haven't done any hunting lately still recovering from a dog bite. Breaking up a dog fight can be exciting. When I do again take to the field I will be bringing an extra canteen and I will be hunting along the Little Missouri River or the Terre Rouge Creek. The hogs will be along water somewhere and the dogs will have water as well.

I like to take a boat up creeks as far as I can get and then sneak up the banks trying to see them first on hot afternoons. Sweaty work but can be productive.

Making a 12 mile run just before dark this afternoon we saw two hogs out in a couple of recently combined wheat fields.

One was running cause we caught him out in the open, he went 200 easily, maybe 220 but not much over that if any.

Plenty hot here, too, Charlie, but the closest hogs are up in the south end of the Sacramentos. Lots more over in the Pecos Valley, I am told, but it has been in the 100s there lately, too.

Have a great summer Gato. Knowing first hand how much you've done for the hog hunting sport, you certainly deserve a summer break. Hope all is well.
