Had a tough night last night. The ranch got about 1/2 in rain two days ago And I decided to take the dogs out. Found where the hogs had been to a deer feeder and dropped Buddy and Badger out to see what they could find.Wasn't long and we had a bay.The hog didn't bay long before he broke and they followed him around and around a little blackbrush hill for about 30 minutes. I was getting impatient so I let Trouble and Quirt out to speed things up some.Just as I let them loose the other dogs quit barking and the went staight to the hill and bayed. Before I could let the catch dogs out Quirt to catch him and got cut pretty bad. While I was tending to Quirt, Trouble bayed him again. I leashed up Bones and started to the bay. When I was about 25 yds from I radioed the truck and told them to let Mason and Heyena go. I then let Bones go and the fight was on. On the way in I heard a dog squall. By the time I got to the catch only the catch dogs were still hooked up. We stuck the boar and was starting out when Badger came to me and collapsed at my feet and died. Buddy was cut on hind leg,Heyena on the hind leg and Bones in the mouth. I left the hog there until daylight and went back and took a couple of pictures. By the time I got Quirt stiched up It was almost dawn.I think she will be ok if she didn't get a puncture on the inside. If she did I couldn,t find it.

About two years ago the cur dogs had this hog caught and I busted up the catch by driving up on them with my lights on and he broke away from the curs before I got the catch dogs turned out. Since then I know I have run him three or four times because I have started him in the same spot each time but he has eluded me each time. Here is a picture of him a while back at the feeder close to where he beds. Look at the tear in his left ear which I assume is from where he got loose from the curs.

Hear is a picture of him up on a protein feeder. The platform on the feeder is 3ft off the ground. You can see the tear in his left ear better in this picture.

As I was going in to the catch I had two young men following me.One hunts with me a lot and the other it was his first time. After we got him stuck we were were standing back watching the catch dogs work and the boar spun them around and looked me straight in the eye.I immediately told them to get out of here because I have only seen that look only one time before and the boar cut my hunting buddy on the back of the leg as he went by.It wasgood that he was stuck good but I went in and stuck him again just in case. The manager of the place was happy that the boar was dead and showed me another picture and said my job wasn't finished yet.

He told me that the hogs had turned over the feeder and had broken off the drop tube and he had to fix it. I told him in about a week the start dogs should be ready to go again.

Duckman, sorry about your dog, only consolation is that he was doing what was natural for him.
There looks to be some impressive hunting in your patch.
