What Daniel said... I am personally not a fan of Sierra's but there have been a ton of animals killed with them and they are heavier than your hornaday choice so either one. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.  What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances. | |||

Thanks for the opinions. Going with the 150 sierras. Was starting to panic, as I thought a month would be enough time to work up a load and get in some practice. After close to 200 bullets and five different powders I came to the conclusion that my rifle dosn't like nosler partitions. Will post some photos when I get back. | |||

You see people bad mouth sierras, claiming they are to soft , I like them also at lower velocities, and stock up on Hornadays mostly | |||

Shoot them about two inches below the ear on a line between the ear and shoulder and you'll not have a problem with either bullet. This will sever the spinal column and they're DRT. All they will do is lay there an paddle. They are dead and don't know it yet. GWB | |||

Hmmmm...every rifle has its favorites. My .270 shot Noslers and Speer really well. I was just starting to reload, and didn't know any better, and found that my Sierras mesured...like .278, so I wrote a letter to them asking why, and got a snotty reply. I didn't purchase another Sierra product till years later when I got my .257 Roberts. They do shoot amazingly well, tho. I think any bullet from 130-150 gr. will do the job for you. None of 'em will bounce off, but 150 gr. would be my choice. Good luck to you! | |||

Thanks for the help tommy, I think I clicked on copy instead of paste. Anyway, detales. where to begin? first off, I have to say that my wife arranged the whole thing.Ah, lucky man you say,and you are quite correct. But there is motive. you see, when she starts planing a trip where I'm going to spend twelve hours on a plane.Then I'm going to have to drive some rental go cart out of an airport, on to a freeway where I don't speak the language, or have any clue where we are going.Add to this that she ( my beloved wife) is on the cell phone making vauge gestures as to witch exit I should have taken. Get the picture? Ok, well she has figured out that I load and haul much better if there is a rifle case on the trip  Anyway, we end up in southern " Deep France" at a place you can find on the internet. Francesafaries. A high fenced deer hunting property, with boar running amock under the fence where , and when ever they want. They seemed thrilled with the idea that I was happy to shoot an eating size pig. So we spent two days,morning and evening, stalking the edges of a freshly planted pasture. Finaly, just at dark, we got to put the sneak on some boar. One large male, two good sized females, and seven or eight eighty pounders.The wind was good. The bigest problem was a farm house about a quarter mile away.Had to work our way around through the woods so as to have a good shot,not inline with the farm house.Somthing, I think we made a bit of noise, spooked them and they all went into the trees. We decided to wait till we couldn't see any more, and guess what? One steped back out. I took the shot, and I have to admit, it was not my best. she as walking, and I quit moving my rifle before I shot. Through the liver, not the heart. Only went about ten feet though. Then the strangest thing happened. As we walked up to the dead pig, a large sow came up and stood by the dead one. We waited a bit , then steped out to where she could see us,she took off into the darkness, but came right back. After about ten minutes of this, the guides son showed up, and the guide went off to get the pickup ( a dodge) with instructions to shoot the sow if she got any closer. When the pickup showed up, the sow left for good. We ate backstrap the next nite. We ate like kings the whole time we were there! Will post some mor pics tomarrowEric. Sorry, no spe  l check | |||
