With recoveries. I have shot at several but could not find them. Either I missed or had some runners! Last night was not much better. Went to my place and had two deer show up. That's kind of unusual, they left at about 9. 9:20 somebody close by was shooting, with several shots than repeat. 9:30 this guy shows up. 416 Ruger 400 grain Hornday interlock. I heard him crash in the brush a couple of times. At least this time there was a blood trail. I lost it a couple of times only to see blood smeared on brush trunks. So he was too close to leave and too far to drag back! Its too thick to drag him farther away and to leave him, the buzzards would make a mess of my feeder and solar panel! So I went back and got my short chain, then had to retrail him! 165 pound boar.

Nice one! I think you need one of the Leupold LTO thermals for recoveries. That little unit really simplified things for me. They are hell on batteries, so I bought a charger and about a dozen so I have some on hand at all times. They give maybe 30 minutes on a full battery.

Maybe you need a bigger gun if that
petty little .416 can't put 'em down.

I think this was a smaller boar, not the larger one I had seen on camera. I have brought it up before. A lot of talk about bullet performance but never about the mental state of the animal. A poor shot and bullet performance but DRT. A good shot with a good bullet and it runs! Go figure? Here I guess the little guy came in early for a few extra bites knowing it would have to book when big guy showed. Like a sprinter on the blocks, gun goes off he was gone!
