Or, "magnums are a girl's best friend"

Still back a couple years (2007?) I decided I had to go hunting again. Again we booked with Kyler, because, well, he's a great guide and a kick to be around for a weekend. We had also discovered a common fondness for, how shall I put this, some of the larger (!) calibers.
Now, of course, the setting is the same- Parkfield, CA. The difference this time is that by now I had decided, based in no small part on my experience seeing the big pig John got on the last hunt not go down easily (at least I got mine with one shot!) that perhaps I should upgrade and get a better pig gun. Much deliberation went into the decision for a 338 WinMag- Ruger model 77. I have to say, that one was fun to take out to the range for practice and sight-in.
At any rate, off we go for another hunt- and I saw all of one pig. Didn't even get a shot at it. We did, however, decide to test out the accuracy on some smaller game on the ranch. Managed to pierce up a jackrabbit's ear (I always wondered if he's still out there) trying to be a show-off and go for the head shot.
I will say, that little Ruger did a fine job of squirrel eradication on the couple I shot at. Managed to get one off of a log- apparently it was funny as all get out, as I looked over after the shot to see both my dear husband and Kyler laughing their asses off. Shoulda had video.

You created the worlds first metro-sexual jackrabbit, shouldn't be hard to spot. I remember that hunt as the one where I'm taking popshots at a coyote at 300 yds, missing by a a couple inches, but nailed the wrong side of the pig! Front shoulder, rear shoulder, oh the memories.

Ah, the .338 win mag -- one of my favorite pig calibers! I too have an old M77 in .338 that I fondly refer to as my squirrel rifle (hey, aside from some old WWII military rifles, it's the smalled caliber I own!).

I have to say the 338 does make a superior squirrel cartridge. Works pretty good on jackrabbits too. You never know when the squirrels are going to attack....
