Hi

This subject has been posted befor I am sure but I coulld not find anything on them. Unless I am looking wrong...again Big Grin

I have read and herd so many stories about what to bait bushpig on. Dead animals, chickens etc. Recently I found out about mixing millies (corn) with meat and adding yeast in order for the millies to rot? Does this work? What are other feeding mixtures that one can make use of?

In general, when attempting to attract pigs of any type, the stinkier the better.

Corn soaked in beer yields a pretty fetching concoction for piggies. Adding a little old meat can't hurt. I would think that molasses would be the icing on the cake -- or actual cake with icing would also do nicely Big Grin.

Diesel is good to mix with corn as well.......

since i eat the wild pigs i shoot, i don't think i want to eat a pig that has been feeding on a diesel mix of anything. i bait them around my orchard to concentrate them and do some damage control. since i will never be able to shoot more than 1 or 2 at a time, the remainder are going to help themselves to the bait when i leave. corn and cheap beer( and most other baits) work best in hot weather.

Fill a 5-gal bucket with corn, mix in a few scuds, cover, and let bake in the sun for several days.

Dig a narrow, deep hole (a few feet deep), and pour a bit of the now really, really rank scud/corn mix in the bottom... cover with some dirt... add more mix... add more dirt... until you have the hole filled with layers of corn and dirt.

This narrow hole will force the pigs to dig a large circle to get to the corn at the bottom of the hole, and they'll stay on the bait longer.

It works in Texas, and it worked a few months ago in Zim.

Never tried this, but I've heard of sprinkling grape drink mix (really big bag) on the ground then mixing it into the soil. Cheap to try.

I eat the ones I shoot as well. They love diesel -- it speaks volumes of their digestive systems!

I also use cherry Koolaide mixed with corn -- they seem to love it.

Have tried Grape mix and old fruit, the tend like JD's mixture the best though, i have thrown just millies out but that gets eating by birds and warthog (huge problem).

That is the advantage of diesel. At least over here, the only animals that will touch it are the hogs.

I've used jello in its powdered form (mixed with a little water) successfully over corn as well.

Dried molasses works well and a little goes a long way. Just throw out a pound or two on top of the soil or dig a hole and bury a pound or two. The little buggers seem to have a bit of a sweet tooth and will excavate for it.

Just adding to what Thenie Meanie said about the dried molasses. Someone told me that you can take some corn and spread out on a piece of canvas, then spray the molasses over the corn. The can buy the molasses in a drum of 25 kg. Think its called Chocolate Corn Candy. Leave it in the sun to dry. This gives you a chocolate covered corn , which I think could work even in a feeder.

What would the mixing ratio be with diesel then?

don't know about a ratio - he'd make a pile of corn and dump a 5 gal can of diesel all over it

I will have to try this for myself. Cant imagine that hogs eat corn with diesel. Sure if the hogs do it, the bushpigs will too. Think I will try it away from my regular feeding spot, incase it chases the hogs away... CRYBABY

Take a post hole digger and dig a 3-4ft hole. Fill it w/ corn and or diesel or milk or beer or all 3. they will love it. Also we have used old motor oil. They love to roll in it and then rub themselves on the nearest trees to get rid of pests. Diesel works great, coons and other critters don't like it but pigs do. Buddy of mine does his at his place whenver he needs some fresh pork.

This sounds like a lot of trouble for hogs. Obviously from all the concoctions hogs are not picky. Start by just spreading corn, if that does not work then spice it up but I would go easiest first before going to a lot of trouble for hogs.

Was mixin up a batch of smelly for the pigs once and we found some old dried up catfish blood bait. Mixed that in too. Up to that point I didn't too much mind the smell. That made it down right disgusting. Never seen anything but diesel bring 'em in like that!
